Upcoming: Chloe Early – “Suspended” @ The Outsiders (London)

Coming up in early April, The Outsiders London will be presenting their first solo exhibition with painter Chloe Early (interviewed). Entitled Suspended, the show will feature the Irish-born, London-based artist’s mid air floating figures, inspired partly by Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s infamous mid-1700s sculpture, The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa, which combined both spiritual and sexual euphoria. Currently showing at the Resnick Pavilion of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art through July 27rd is an exhibition featuring Alexander Calder’s kinetic sculptures. Calder and Abstraction: From Avant-Garde to Iconic is billed as his first museum show in Los Angeles and includes of course his signature “mobiles” and later “stabiles” that have made his work famous around the world. Upcoming: Richard Colman – “Noise” @ V1 Gallery

On February 21st, the V1 Gallery in Copenhagen will be hosting the opening of Richard Colman’s new solo show. Entitled Noise, this exhibition will mark the return of the San Francisco-based artist to the space after a joint showing (covered) there with Andrew Schoultz in 2012. From this photo of the new paintings before they shipped out, we can expect more of his colorful yet dark renderings of his characters cavorting and stacking themselves in in contortions of bodies like a sick game of twister. Berlin based artist, Daniel Weissbach, recently opened his solo at Ruttkowski;68 in Cologne, Germany. Titled Stellen (to set, to put), this show included new pieces from his ongoing series of works focused on taking apart of real, everyday places, and reinventing them in an artistic context. By mostly creating isolated sections of tiled walls, his prime idea is to show and put accent on the spaces between the tiles, where life leaves marks that are hard to remove. Setup: Jacob Hashimoto – “Gas Giant” @ MOCA Pacific Design Center

Jacob Hashimoto’s Gas Giant will be on view at MOCA Pacific Design Center from March 1 to June 8, but we were able to visit (courtesy of Martha Otero) the artist and his crew as they were on day 6 of putting up the massive 2-floor installation. Last night, the Honolulu Museum Of Art School hosted the official launch of this year’s edition of POW! WOW! Hawaii with an opening of a big group show curated by the Thinkspace Gallery. Coming up in May, Shepard Fairey (featured) will be opening a show in Charleston, South Carolina where he grew up along with the work of Jasper Johns at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art. The exhibition will feature new work by Fairey and a survey of prints made between 1982 and 2012 by Johns, highlighting both their technique of recycling graphic elements in separate galleries.
