Showing: Todd James – “Splash Damage” @ Cooper Cole Gallery

Earlier this month, Todd “REAS” James opened a showing in Toronto at the Cooper Cole Gallery entitled Splash Damage. Included in the work on display are his familiar pirate paintings as well as some loose still lifes of women and their cats rendered in the American artist’s cartoonish style. for those in town, the exhibition runs through December 7th so stop by for a look yourself. Ian Strange (Kid Zoom) – “Suburban” @ National Gallery of Victoria

For art lovers in New York, if you missed Yayoi Kusama’s amazing showing last year at the Whitney Museum (covered), you need to get over to David Zwirner. I Who Have Arrived In Heaven spans all three locations of the gallery in Chealsea (519, 525 and 533 West 19th Street) and features 27 new large-scale paintings, a video installation, as well as not one but two of the Japanese artist’s famed mirrored infinity rooms. Installations: David Choong Lee @ Union Square Grand Hyatt

Recently, David Choong Lee completely two massive installations in San Francisco at the Grand Hyatt in Union Square. The stunning piece meal assemblages, one in predominantly white and one in red, are composed in a way often seen from the locally-based artist (see 2012 show). Stop by the lobby and bar of the hotel if you are in the area as fellow members of the Further Collective, Mars-1 & Damon Soule and other artists also have work on display. Photo credit: Sori Kim. Basel Week Miami ’13 / Previews: Tracey Emin – “Angel Without You” @ Miami Museum of Contemporary Art

As we march towards this year’s Art Basel Week in Miami, we’ll continue highlighting some events you may want to attend if you will be in the area. Next up is an exhibition from Tracey Emin’s entitled Angel Without You at the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, the first American museum to add one of the English artist’s work to their permanent collection. KAWS (aka Brian Donnelly) was recently featured along with James Jebbia (founder of Supreme) in i-D Magazine in their Collector’s Issue. Entitled “boys and their toys: a tale of two titans,” the article on these two men whose brands have the fervent following of a multitude of fans, also includes a photoshoot with Candice Swanepoel, the South African model best known for her work with Victoria’s Secret. FriendsWithYou makes a return to Miami next month for a special project at The Mondrian for Art Basel Week. The showing entitled Somewhere Over the Rainbow will explore the full color spectrum and how they relate to emotions spanning from the combination of colors (white), representing life, to the absence of color (black), representing death. Just this passed September 11th, New York-based artist Daniel Arsham and music producer Pharrell Williams unveiled their first collaborative endeavor at The Standard East Village Hotel in New York City. The result of their joint venture materialized as four re-creations of a Casino MT-500 keyboard, which is the first instrument on which Pharrell ever created music on.
