At the end of last month, photographer Tim Barber returned to Japan for a third solo show (see 2011) at Yuka Tsuruno Gallery. Relations see the New York-based artist present 23 previously unreleased works, a series of portraits, landscapes, and urban studies – all taken with a style he has become known for since his stint as the photo editor at Vice Magazine. This past weekend the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) opened its doors to unveil the much anticipated exhibition by KAWS. The show featured 70 works (old & new) at the historic institution and included both paintings and sculptures that spans some major milestones of the artist’s storied career to date. The Popular Workshop in San Francisco opened The Fall, a solo show by Francesco Igory Deiana on the 27th of September. The Italian born artist created a new body of work continuing and evolving his imagery and concepts. Using wide range of different mediums and techniques, he prepared different kinds of pieces from smaller drawings, paintings, prints or photographs, to sculptures and large size installation. Last month, AM paid a visit to the Andrew Edlin Gallery in New York to take in a new solo show from Brian Adam Douglas (interviewed), otherwise known as Elbow-Toe. Utilizing a painstaking process involving shards of cut paper in place of brush strokes, the resulting art works are amazingly textural and complex. The inaugural edition of STRARTA fair was opened this weekend at Saatchi Gallery, at the very beginning of London art week.
