Preview: Matthias Düwel – “Eden” @ Martha Otero Gallery

Opening this Saturday, August 4 at 6pm is a solo exhibition by Matthias Düwel at Martha Otero Gallery in West Hollywood.  The exhibition, curated by Julie Machado, consists of paintings and drawings.  The kinetic, vibrant, and energetic works centers on the idea of flux, excess and superabundance. The artist explores global environmental issues and negotiate the surrounding struggles in finding personal eden.  Visit the show and immerse yourself in Düwel’s worlds.

Design: James Jean – Wedding Invitation

Having a good friend like James Jean (featured) certainly came in handy for one lucky couple as the LA-based artist was asked to design special wedding invitations for them. It looks to be fabricated in a similar fashion to the stunning wood piece he created for our City Of Fire show based on the union of two animals from the Chinese Zodiac – the ox and snake. Preview: Group Exhibition @ David B. Smith Gallery

After a short hiatus, the David B. Art Focus: Toyin Odutola

Our midweek Art Focus is on an artist new to AM – Nigerian-born, American artist Toyin Odutola. Preview: James “Dalek” Marshall – “STABILIMENTUM” @ Hurley H SPACE Gallery

Tomorrow night (July 31st), in celebration of the US Open of Surfing 2012 (also see PUSH’s effort) and launch of the Phantom Fuse boardshort, Hurley presents STABILIMENTUM, an immersive new installation from James “Dalek” Marshall (interviewed). Teaser: Matt Small – “Seen and Heard” @ Blackall Studios

On August 10th, a new series of works from Matt Small (interviewed) will be on display at Blackall Studios in London. Showing: Friends With You – “Happy Rainbow” @ TMTP Cultural Center

It’s always nice to see concept images become reality – with FriendsWithYou’s exhibition in Hong Kong being no exception. The new installation from the Miami-based duo entitled Happy Rainbow opened to the public recently at the TMTP Cultural Center to the delight of their fans there. The inflatable bouncing installations as well as fiberglass, plush and resin sculptures are always a hit with the younger crowd but certainly was fun for all ages. Via Designboom.
