Preview: Yayoi Kusama x Louis Vuitton Pop-Up Stores

It looks like Louis Vuitton is going all in with their new Infinitely Kusama collaborative line with Japanese avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama. The French fashion house is planning seven special pop-up shops around the globe decorated with Kusama’s signature dot motif as well as her pumpkin sculptures to match her inspired clothing and products. The first store will open in New York on July 10th, two days before Kusama’s touring retrospective opens at the Whitney Museum. Another weekend, another Rewind feature here on AM. Leading off our summary of videos this week is the inspiring story (from The Guardian) of Syrian cartoonist Ali Farzat, who founded Syria’s first satirical weekly, Ad Domani. In August 2011, he was attacked by Bashar al-Assad’s militia who broke his hands to stop him from drawing Assad. After a showing earlier this year in the UK, Brett Amory (featured) returns stateside for a joint showing at the Thinkspace Gallery with Adam Caldwell. Entitled Dirty Laundry, the Oakland-based Amory will be contributing more of his signature hazy snapshot paintings of random moments in time of anonymous people. Earlier today, Poster Child Prints released a new print from Mark Dean Veca (featured) based on this When The Shit Hits The Fan painting, first seen in his solo at Western Projects last year. This hand-pulled silkscreen edition is limited to a run of 80, 22 x 28 inches, signed & numbered, and costs $120. Openings: “Gin & Juice” @ Ivory & Black

Last week, Ivory & Black in London hosted their first group exhibition featuring painters Andrew Schoultz, Cleon Peterson, James Jean, Richard Colman and Ryan Travis Christian. Entitled Gin & Juice, the artists chosen all have been influenced by various Californian subcultures which in turn has informed their work and imagery. Showgoers were also greeted by James Jean (featured) who made the trip over and took time to work in a wall installation. Discuss this show here.
