Last Friday AM attended a preview of Shepard Fairey’s (featured) solo exhibition Harmony & Discord with blue chip gallery Pace Prints. Saturday evening marked the opening of a joint effort between LA-based gallery, Thinkspace and San Francisco’s Spoke Art Gallery (previewed). Streets: Conor Harrington (Ireland) Part II

Just like when he gifted his home county with a series of murals (here, here, & here) last summer, Conor Harrington (interviewed) appears to be hitting up multiple walls on this trip to Ireland as well. We already showed you a quick piece he whipped up outside of Lurgan, but now comes photos of something new – The Duel of Belfast, Dance By Candlelight. A couple weekends ago, London showgoers had the opportunity to enjoy a selection of new paintings from Ian Francis (featured) at the Rathbone Place location of Lazarides. 10,000 Years From Now is a pretty incredible new body of work featuring the Bristol-based artist’s masterful blend of the photo-realism & the abstract while touching on imagery that included seductive characters & ghostly landscapes utilizing a beautiful palette and intriguing titles. Openings: Tomokazu Matsuyama – “The Future is Always Bright” @ Frey Norris

Along with his current museum exhibition running at the Katzen Arts Center of the American University Museum in Washington DC (covered), Frey Norris unveiled the latest works from Tomokazu Matsuyama in a show entitled, The Future is Always Bright (previewed). The show consisted of sculptures and a mixture of small and large paintings done on amorphous and round-shaped canvases. The images he painted for this show expresses modern optimism in our society, with traditional Asian symbology for prosperity and good fortune. Discuss this show here. […]

Frank Faryab spends £2million proving oil painting he bought is lost JMW Turner masterpiece. The Scream pastel drawing on cardboard by Munch sells for a record $120 million at Sotheby’s. Speculation on who may have won it. Adjusting for inflation, the piece is not the most expensive artwork ever sold. The Getty cutting about 9% of its workforce in order to buy more art. AM recently attended the opening of Go East at Joshua Liner Gallery. This unique collaborative effort between the JL and the West Coast-based Mark Moore Gallery brought a synergy we were expecting with a fresh showcase of talented artists such as Chad Person, Feodor Voronov, Kenichi Yokono and Yoram Wolberger. With this exhibition, NYC attendees were able to sample the artistic tastes that have established Mark Moore as a key gallery in the Los Angeles art scene. Coming up very soon, Joshua Liner will return the favor and curate Go West at the MM showspace. […]

Teaser: Tauba Auerbach – “Float” @ Paula Cooper

Tonight in New York, the Paula Cooper Gallery will be hosting Tauba Auerbach’s first one-person exhibition at the gallery entitled Float. The NY-based artist will be unveiling new Fold paintings alongside a new series of Weave paintings, presented for the first time in the United States. Also on display will be new photographs and sculptural objects, including Onyx, a deconstructed material volume printed and bound in book form. Frieze Week NYC ’12: Frieze Art Fair – First Look

There’s a new contender for the biggest baddest art fair in New York City and it hails from overseas.
