POW! WOW! Long Beach ’18: Papercut Lounge

As part of this year’s POW! WOW! Long Beach (more coverage here) the Papercut Lounge worked with a group of artists to make zines available to festival attendees (which you can still purchase online here). The popup space not only served as a shop but also featured a cascading installation of books by Olga Lah and a large painting from Brendan Monroe as well as hosted the kickoff and closing party for the week-long, city-wide event. Felice Varini Carcassonne Installation

Visible from May to September 2018, Felice Varini’s latest project is a striking installation at the medieval fortress of Carcassonne in Southern France. Spread on the west front of the city fortifications, 15 yellow circles (composed of temporary thin aluminium strips) all come together perfectly in the field of vision when standing facing one of the gates and is characteristic of the Swiss artist’s geometric perspective-localized paintings. Showing: Haroshi – “NANZUKA at Petzel” @ Petzel Gallery

Recently in New York, Haroshi (featured) unveiled a new series of works at Petzel Gallery (35 E 67th Street location) for Tokyo’s Nanzuka Gallery as part of the second New York edition of Condo, a gallery share program. Known for his sculptural use of skate decks as a medium, the Japanese artist had 29 new pieces on view alongside works from Makoto Taniguchi & Mori Masato. Arranged in a circle, the sold out cleverly conceived half kaiju half wood pieces made for a striking installation. Discuss Haroshi here.

Releases: Parra x Nike Air Max 1 & Zoom Spiridon Collection

Over the last week or so, Parra started to reveal some new collaborations with Nike including his take on the Zoom Spiridon, & Air Max 1 (including a Friends and Family edition with the lateral swoosh removed and a matching tracksuit). Upcoming: Hajime Sorayama – “Sorayama Explosion” @ NANZUKA

On July 7th, NANZUKA in Tokyo will be hosting the opening of a new solo show from Hajime Sorayama. Entitled Sorayama Explosion, the exhibition will feature paintings as well as a new human-scale sculpture from the Japanese artist known for his “sexy robot” motif. Also available will be a few held back Sorayama Classic Robot SURF sculptural editions from APPortfolio (seen further below) and a new ceramic sculpture edition from Case Studyo entitled A Touch of Mercury (seen directly below).
