Openings: “Don’t believe the Type” @ Zero Cool

As we mentioned recently in our dual interview with Hush and Dan Baldwin, their collaborative pieces were part of a group show “Don’t Believe the Type” that opened several nights ago at Zero Cool Gallery. Basel Week Miami ’09 – Dan Attoe @ Peres Projects

Less than a month after Dan Attoe‘s highly successful solo exhibition, I’m Done Worryin’ About Shit, at Peres Projects in Los Angeles came to a close, the gallery featured the artist in a solo show at Art Basel Miami. The show consisted of Attoe’s meticulously rendered paintings and large-scale, highly illuminated neon sculptures. It certainly was one of the most spectacular booths at Basel’s Art Nova section. Opening tomorrow night at Jonathan LeVine Gallery is James Marshall’s (interviewed) latest show entitled “And There Was War in Heaven.” With this new body of work, the artist formerly known as Dalek continues down the path of near-total geometric abstraction, with few or no references remaining to his early space monkey character. Whitney Announces 2010 Biennial Picks

It’s that time of year again, when the Whitney makes an important announcement regarding the Whitney Biennial. Last year at the exact same time, it announced the curatorial team for its 2010 Biennial. Today, the much-anticipated list of artists, which includes Robert Williams, Aurel Schmidt, and Tauba Auerbach, was announced. Curators Francesco Bonami and Gary Carrion-Murayari chose a diverse range of artists who work across all different kinds of media and subject matter. With the demand for quality evident by the current buyer’s market in contemporary art, Zach Feuer Gallery (LFL) brought out their best artist, the painter Dana Schutz, for Art Basel Miami 2009. Mizuma Gallery recently hosted the opening of Masakatsu Sashie’s latest body of work “De Facto Standard.” As mentioned in our preview, Sashie isn’t just content with his success using his spherical motifs. The exhibition, filling the entire 45,000 sq. ft. museum, consists of 260 works by 74 artists of different generations and examines the role of appropriation throughout modern and contemporary art.
