Preview: Ron English – “Immortal Underground” @ Opera Gallery (New York)

As we mentioned yesterday, Ron English (featured) is looking for “cowgirls” for a special performance during the opening of his “Immortal Underground” exhibition.  Just half a year after his solo at Elms Lester (covered) and curating the “Nimbus Vapor” show (covered) earlier this month, he’s back with a new body of work on November 12th at the Opera Gallery in New York. Today, at 11am Eastern, The BLDG will be releasing a new 6-color hand-pulled screenprint by Jim Houser. Video: Dennis Hopper on Art

In this short from 2007, Dennis Hopper shares his passion for art collecting and gives a guided tour of his personal collection.   Hopper, who befriended many of contemporary art’s greats starting in the 1950’s, has an impressive collection of both paintings and anecdotes featuring such luminaries as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Basquiat, and Kenny Scharf.  Enjoy!

Openings: Greg Gossel – “Broken” @ Soo Visual Arts Center

Greg Gossel (interviewed) recently opened his latest solo show, “Broken” at the Soo Visual Arts Center (previewed). Featuring over twenty new works as well as an installation, “Broken” is Greg’s first solo show in Minnesota, though he’s a Minneapolis resident. Those in the area who want to see the show should hurry to Soo Visual Arts Center as the show closes this Thursday, November 29th. More pictures after the jump.
