Tomorrow night (February 11th) in Detroit, Library Street Collective will be presenting new work from Sam Friedman in a show entitled LOVE SONGS. Continuing his deconstruction of natural landscapes, the New York-based artist has prepared a series of canvases as well as over 30 paintings on paper that revisit his earlier exploration of beach scenes and sunsets. KAWS Releasing Remaining Stock Of “BFF” Plush (Black Version)

For those who missed the original blue colorway of KAWS’ BFF plush (covered) in Thailand, there was another chance with the recent slate of black versions that were released in conjunction with his exhibition in Texas (covered). Showing: Josh Reames – “Texting While Driving” @ Bill Brady

Showing through the end of this weekend in Miami is Josh Reames’ exhibition at Bill Brady Gallery. Entitled Texting While Driving, the new work features the imagery from the Brooklyn-based artist references the distracted driver with the random streams of information that seen with cursory glances in between giving attention to the cellphone. Also on display in the space are a series of traffic cone sculptures, presented in a variety of colors, heights, and conditions. Discuss Josh Reames here.

This Sunday, POW! WOW! Hawaii (more info here) kicks off with a re-occurring show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum of Art School entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement (see 2016 & 2015 & 2014). As in the past, the format is 12 x 12″ works, leading to a visually congruent display of artworks, some of which were inspired by island life. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, James Jean (interviewed) will be offering up a new print entitled Lapins d’Amour. The signed and numbered time-limited edition will be available for 24 hours starting at 8:00 AM PST on Tuesday, February 14th and ending at 7:59 AM PST on Wednesday, February 15th and then never sold again. Previews: Jose Parla – “Roots” @ SCAD Museum

As we mentioned when we covered Jose Parla’s show at YoungArts during Basel Week Miami, the work was going to travel to the SCAD Museum of Art in 2017. That exhibition, entitled Roots, opened today in Georgia at the Savannah College of Art and Design with works ranging from mid-sized canvases and sculptures to large-scale paintings. The Cuban-American artist has created a series of work that represent everything from Cuba’s history to his personal memories and experiences while utilizing his signature textures, urban calligraphy, and palette. On February 9th, Joshua Liner Gallery will present fresh work from Evan Hecox collectively entitled The Long Way.
