Previews: Roq La Rue @ LA Art Show / Littletopia

The LA Art Show is set to open today through the end of the weekend at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Like last year, there will be a special section devoted to low brow, pop surrealism, and the new contemporary art movement entitled Littletopia (see 2014). This is where the Roq La Rue booth will reside with works this year from Travis Louie (seen above), Chris Berens, Peter Ferguson, Chie Yoshii, Jeff Jacobson, Femke Hiemstra, and Sail. Releases: James Jean – “Flash” Print Set

On Thursday, January 15th, James Jean (interviewed) will be releasing a pair of offset-lithograph prints entitled Flash. Each set come with an additional booklet of temporary tattoos that mirror the imagery seen in the prints. The size of the editions will be 24″ x 16″ and comes in a run of 1000, costing $100. It looks like Mars-1 & Damon Soule recently collaborated with Smokovich Designs to create some limited edition jewelry for the fashion conscious art fans out there. Dubbed the Furtherrr Collection after the art collective the two Bay Area-based artists are part of, the line features pendants, necklaces, and earrings created based off their artwork and drawings. On January 10th, Gallery 1988 (East) will be opening a solo show from Nicole Gustafsson featuring over 25 original paintings (and a few prints) illustrating some of her favorite video games, tv shows, and films of mostly the 80s and 90s. Entitled Pop Terrariums, the new body of work from the Pacific Northwest based artist will combine her love for those little enclosed worlds in a glass containers with her love for pop culture.
