Openings: Shawn Barber – “Memoir: The Tattooed Portraits Series” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Last week in New York, the Joshua Liner Gallery played host to artist and tattoo specialist Shawn Barber’s (interviewed) new solo – Memoir: The Tattooed Portraits Series. The new body of work features portraits of notables in the body inking subculture (many of them the painter’s close friends) as well works featuring various selections of tattoo paraphernalia. Releases: Ron English – “American Depress” @ Kidrobot

Ron English (featured) recently created a new vinyl sculpture with toy maker Kidrobot for their ultra limited Kidrobot Black line. Entitled American Depress, the 12-inch figure depicts Ron’s version of a bloated Mickey Mouse ensnared in a Amex “Black Card” credit trap. Upcoming: Cartoon Network 20th Anniversary Exhibition @ SDCC

Yes, Comic-Con is almost upon us again. As always with SDCC, there is bound to be some art-related news or exhibitions in association with the event. One of these is Cartoon Network’s 20th Anniversary Exhibition curated by Mark Murphy with 75 artists slated to participate. Each were given a Cartoon Network show (like Samurai Jack, Adventure Time, Ben 10 Alien Force, Billy & Mandy, Dexter’s Laboratory, the Power Puff Girls, Gumball, etc) and asked to create a themed work and interpretation on their designated assignment.
