Openings: “Summer Group Exhibition 2011” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

A little while back, AM caught the opening of Joshua Liner’s annual Summer Group Exhibtion. Some artists new to the NY gallery like Chloe Early, Evelyn Rydz, Herbert Baglione and Greg Lamarche joined the ranks of the gallery regulars such as Damon Soule, Dave Kinsey, David Ellis, Evan Hecox, Oliver Vernon, Pema Rinzin, Ryan McLennan, Shawn Barber, Stephen Powers, Tiffany Bozic, Tomokazu Matsuyama and Tony Curanaj. The exhibition not only gave us a sense of the quality works that we’ve come to expect from the Joshua’s space, but also […]

Preview / Studio Visit: Jeff Soto for “Les Enfants TERRIBLES” (Lyon)

Last week, AM was invited over to visit Jeff Soto (interviewed) in his new studio in Riverside. The multi-purpose complex not only housed his workspace and office but also a tattoo parlor, a clothing line, as well as the office of childhood friend Maxx242. We were looking forward to seeing some new paintings from Jeff, seeing as he was surrounded by other creative talents. What you see above is some of the work he will be bringing to Lyon during the opening week of the Lyon Biennale for […]

Openings: Risk & Nathan Ota – “That Was Then, This Is Now” @ LeBasse Projects – Culver City

This past weekend, Lebasse Projects hosted a traveling exhibition (see SF coverage) which featured collaborations by artists Risk and  Nathan Ota. Titled That Was Then, This Is Now, the show brought together the two long time friends for an exhibit which showcased a superb collection of artwork diplaying each artist’s strengths and respective styles. While Risk’s work often focused on graffiti-type iconography and lettering, Ota rendered the rest of the paintings with finely detailed settings and characters that at times felt surreal and strange. Although […]

Streets: Ron English (Detroit)

Ron English (featured) started his road trip to Detroit recently, looking to bring some of his art to the city including apparently a hand painted “grin balloon.” Along with some walls and billboards plastered with his “popaganda” imagery at the imfamous Packard Plant location, he also raised his profile in the motor city with something inflatable that could be seen from a distance. More photos after the jump…

Teaser: Tim Biskup – “Former State” @ THIS Gallery

Coming up on October 14th, Tim Biskup will be back in Los Angeles for a solo show at THIS Gallery featuring new paintings and sculptures. Focusing on other projects, we haven’t seen many exhibitions from the Biskup as of late with the last show in LA being at De La Barracuda in 2009 (not counting his installation at The Standard Hollywood). For those interested, he has also launched a new website. Discuss Tim Biskup here.

Releases: Joe Ledbetter – 12″ Mutant Bunny (Hand Painted)

For those looking to round out their custom art figure collection, you’ll want to pay attention to this.  Joe Ledbetter is releasing a series of 40 hand-painted unique 12″ Mutant Bunny pieces (sculpted by Pretty in Plastic). Priced at $1500, the nicely sized pieces are priced reasonably considering what his customs go for on the market. In addition, the paint job seems to take to the resin better when compared to vinyl. Earlier this week, AM stopped by Brian Viveros’ studio to catch up with the Riverside-based artist and talk about his upcoming show in New York.
