Upcoming: Cleon Peterson – “Shadow of Men” @ MCA Denver

This Friday (February 2nd), the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (MCA Denver) will be opening up an exhibition from Cleon Peterson spanning their entire second floor. Featuring the provocative artist’s starkly violent imagery, the show will put on display paintings, sculptures, and murals, including what looks to be a striking “wrap” of the building’s facade. If you plan to attend the winter opening celebration (also welcoming in new exhibitions from Diego Rodriguez-Warner and Arthur Jafa), you will need to procure tickets here. Releases: James Jean – “The Shape of Water” Print

Currently, James Jean (interviewed) has a time-limited print on release until 7:59 AM PST on Wednesday, January 31st. The Shape of Water was created for the award winning film of the same name with James working directly with Guillermo del Toro to create an image for the official one sheet. Sized at 33 1/2” x 23”, it comes signed and numbered from the Los Angeles-based artist and priced at $200. Head over here for more details and to purchase if you want to add it to your collection. Upcoming: Matsukatsu Sashie – “Kaleidoscope” @ KP Projects

Returning to KP Projects in Los Angeles, site of his successful showing there in 2015 (covered), Masakatsu Sashie will be presenting a new body of work starting February 3rd. Entitled Kaleidoscope, the solo exhibition from the Japanese artist will surely be anchored by his signature suspended orbs of manmade objects. Kazuhiro Tsuji – Mark Ryden Sculpture

Continuing his uncanny ability to capture the human form with his artistic touch, Kazuhiro Tsuji recently revealed his newest sculpture at the Copro Gallery booth during the LA Art Show. Recap: Audrey Kawasaki – “Gilded Horizon” @ KP Projects

Last weekend, KP Projects in Los Angeles closed a group show entitled Gilded Horizon that featured the work of six artists – Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed), Johnny “KMDZ” Rodriguez, JP Neang, Jean-Pierre Arboleda, and Melany Meza-Dierks. For her part of the exhibition, Kawasaki took inspiration from ethnic women in Mongolia, Armenia, Kenya, Yemen and more for her stunning portraitures on wood, adding in some intricate jewelry and headwear for her increasingly complex compositions.
