Last Saturday, TT-Underground Gallery in New York City hosted the opening of the “Benefit Art Auction” to display works of art to be put on on eBay (here), with 100% of the proceeds going to the Japan Red Cross and GlobalGiving to aid those effected by the recent tsunami and earthquake in Japan. The evening included a live painting session by Lamour Supreme and Greg Mishka, as well as a ticket raffle with the proceeds going to the Japan Red Cross. A few highlights of […]

Preview: Kris Kuksi – “Pneumatic” @ Roq La Rue

Master mixed media cut chemist, Kris Kuski, is set to reveal a new body of work in Seattle tonight, the first since showing at Art Basel Miami (covered) last December. Opening at Roq La Rue, Pneumatic will exhibit the Kansas-based artist’s talents through his signature remixing of found objects and model components (thousands in most cases!) into his self-dubbed “post industrial rocco” sculptural assemblages. These insanely intricate works should juxtapose nicely against the soft, eerie collection of paintings from Travis Louie (featured), entitled The Creature […]

Preview: Travis Louie – “The Creature Show” @ Roq La Rue

Tomorrow night, up in Seattle, The Creature Show will be opening up at the Roq La Rue Gallery. Some of Travis Louie’s (featured) famous vintage portraiture will be on display, and  this time of his Victorian-age characters and their unusual pets (although it looks like some creatures are going solo). AM really likes the detail in this new collection of paintings with more full-body perspectives and is looking forward to seeing it on the walls. More preview images after the jump…

Charity: “Artist Help Japan” Art Auction

Christina Conway, who if you remember curated the kokeshi show (covered), has again put her curatorial skills to work – this time to benefit the Japan relief efforts. Artists like Audrey Kawasaki, Yoskay Yamamoto, Jeni Yang, Allison Sommers and many more were asked to paint “Emas” – small wooden tablets left at Japanese shrines, usually with an image on one side and a handwritten wish or prayer on the other. These small pieces of art were then put up for auction here, where your bids […]

Openings: Adam Wallacavage – “Dreamhome Heartaches” @ Corey Helford

It looks like last month’s opening of Adam Wallacavage’s (interviewed) show at Corey Helford Gallery attracted many of the city’s artistic community. Obviously enamored by his chandeliers, lamps, and other adventurous lighting options, the audience packed into the Culver City show space to take in his and Henry Lewis‘ new body of work. Take a look at some of the pics after the jump. Today is also the last day of the show so stop by if you haven’t had the chance to yet.

Opening Thursday, April 7th at Bold Hype Gallery, Quentin vs. Coen will serve as the first installment of their “versus” series, incorporating over 100 artists from the New Contemporary […]
