AM attended the opening of Mark Ryden’s latest series of work “The Gay 90’s: Old Tyme Art Show” at Paul Kasmin Gallery (previewed). As expected, the space was packed with art enthusiasts that were clamoring to see Mr. Ryden’s amazing talents. Mark certainly didn’t disappoint as he created a cohesive body of works that are as diverse as they are great. Preview: Laurie Lipton – “Weapons of Mass Delusion” @ Grand Central Art Center

London-based artist, Laurie Lipton, is getting set to open her show this weekend at the Grand Central Art Center at Cal State Fullerton. In what sounds like an eternity in the fast-moving and evolving world of contemporary art, Blaine Fontana has just opened his first gallery exhibition in 3 years.  He returns with a tightly constructed, cohesive body of work with a unified theme.  The solo exhibition at LeBasse Projects in Culver City features 13 paintings, using acrylic and almost entirely on board, all intricately and exquisitely rendered by the Otis graduate. Los Angeles leads the worldwide charge this weekend with a slew of simply massive shows going off. From the return of David Choe at Lazarides’ Beverly Hills pop-up space and Phil Frost’s much anticipated LA solo debut at Known Gallery to a very ambitious show at Scion curated by Roger Gastman, LA is the place to be yet again this weekend.
