Preview: Mark Ryden – “The Gay 90’s: Old Tyme Art Show” @ Paul Kasmin Gallery

Ever since we saw the first stunning painting at Art Basel for Mark Ryden’s upcoming show, we have had the date, April 29th, marked down on our calendars. Subsequent peeks at a timelapse of that piece, “Incarnation” and a look at one of the most beautiful show invites ever have only served to increase our artlust even more. And now, it appears some preview images have leaked for the show opening next week at Paul Kasmin Galley in New York which have pushed expectations of […]

Preview: Souther Salazar Installation for Fumetto Festival

Souther Salazar recently put together a pretty dope installation piece for the upcoming Fumetto Festival in Switzerland (with an assist from Monica Choy). As you can see from his other installs for recent shows in New York & Los Angeles, Souther is quite skilled at creating these whimsical mixed media pieces that seem to jump straight out of one of his paintings. The exhibition will be Souther’s first solo in Europe and will feature larger paintings, comics, sculptures and drawings displayed along with “Alejandro”! More […]

Something exciting is coming to the UK in the month of May in the shape of “Art from the New World”, an exhibition organized and curated by Los Angeles based Corey Helford Gallery. The exhibit will show a snapshot of the blossoming American new contemporary scene that we at AM love so much and is to be held at the location of last year’s Banksy versus the Bristol Museum – The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. If you’re in the UK, don’t miss this chance […]

Highlights: Recommended openings for April 16 – 18

April is quickly rushing past as we gear up for some big shows around the corner this May. This week sees a bit of a slow in overall quantity of shows, but there are still a couple of shows out there keeping us on our toes. Joshua Petker’s return to Corey Helford Gallery will be leading the charge on the west coast side of things while Miss Van takes her special brand of street work south of the border for a show with Fifty24MX in the heart […]

Openings: Jeff Gillette – “Dismayland” @ Copro Gallery

Last Saturday night marked the opening of Jeff Gillette’s solo at Copro Gallery, “Dismayland”. If you made the obvious connection between the name he chose for the show and the happiest place on earth, then you would be right. The imagery the Orange County-based artist features in this new body of work includes Snow White, Cinderella, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and other Disney characters scattered in what looks to be the slums of some third world country or perhaps some post-apocalyptic alternate universe leading to […]
