On April 7th, the fifth edition of the moleskin group show will be opening at Spoke Art in San Francisco. Moleskin V is curated by gallery owner Ken Harman and Sydney-based artist Rod Luff and features artworks created directly onto the ubiquitous moleskin sketchbooks that are commonly used by artists around the world. Releases: James Jean – “Pomegranate” Print

James Jean (interviewed) recently released woodblock print that he created at the Adachi Institute in Tokyo. The limited edition (run of 50) features a young woman using the red color dripping from a pomegranate as makeup, a beautiful example of the Japan-based artist’s artistic vision and craftsmanship. On Saturday night (April 2nd), Arcadia Contemporary will be opening their inaugural exhibition at its new home in Santa Monica’s Bergamot Station Arts Complex after 16 years in New York. The group show entitled Made in California will feature work from their artists that reside in the “Golden State” including John Brosio (seen above), Michael Chapman, Jeremy Lipking, Julio Reyes, John Wentz, Aron Wiesenfeld, and Vincent Xeus.

This Saturday night, April 2nd, Amy Sol (interviewed) will opening her solo at Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City. Entitled Garden Gamine, the set of new pieces continue to show her love for nature with flora and fauna surrounding her female characters. The delicate works feature the Nevada-based artist’s experimentations with oils in a full set of paintings for the first time. On April 1st, Galleri Benoni in Copenhagen will be opening a new solo from Joram Roukes entitled POV. For this exhibition, the Dutch artist has put together a series of mostly larger oil paintings featuring his observations of everyday life but through the prism of his imagination turn into surreal landscapes. Put together in almost a collaged fashion, these fragmented elements come together to form a cohesive composition that provide an “engaging narrative characterized by beauty, chaos and decay.” Discuss Joram Roukes here.

There’s a hole in the ground and it’s playing your song is the name of a new etching that Candice Tripp (interviewed) recently released. The limited edition (run of 25) has been in the works for quite a while but after several months, two plates, three test proofs and a lot of cramping, it is ready for purchase. San Francisco’s Spoke Art Gallery is currently running the last couple days of a solo show by Joan Cornellà. For his US debut, the Barcelona-based artist produced several original acrylics on canvas as well as a series of fine art giclee prints of his popular comics.
