This Saturday night (March 2nd), Kevin Peterson will once again be showing with Thinkspace in Los Angeles, reprising his practice of juxtaposing children and their animal companions in urban environments. This Saturday night (February 23) at Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles, Camille Rose Garcia (interviewed) will be unveiling a new body of work entitled Web Of Stars. The exhibition features a selection of small paintings featuring her familiar palette, signature cast of characters, gothic feel, and Mexican culture-inspired elements. Garcia’s psychedelic new pieces include touches of cosmic imagery and references the interconnectedness of the universe, from the largest planets to the tiniest insects. POW WOW ’19 / Previews: “My Neighbor Hayao” @ Ala Moana Center

As part of this year’s POW! WOW! HAWAII, Spoke Art will be presenting a group exhibition entitled My Neighbor Hayao. The tribute show to the Hayao Miyazki features work from over 100 international artists (like Dan Mumford above) each contributing an interpretation of their favorite Miyazaki films, characters and scenes. This special weekend-only showing will be on view inside Ala Moana Center (unit 1234) from February 13-17.

Coming up next week, James Jean (interviewed) has another print scheduled for release on his website for his collectors featuring the nymph Chelone. Starting at 8:00 AM PDT on Tuesday, February 12 and ending at 7:59 AM PDT on Wednesday, February 13, the time limited edition printed on special metallic paper will come signed and numbered. At the end of last month, Galerie C.O.A. in Montreal opened up a group show featuring artists who took inspiration from artistic movements or individual masters of the past, albeit with their own contemporary take on things. Curated by Sasha Bogojev, the exhibition included work from Eleanor Mccaughey, Pablo Benzo, Ted Pim, Erkut Terliksiz, Emilio Villalba, Sean Norvet, Kathy Ager, Julio Anaya Cabanding (seen above), Doping-Pong, Aldo Sergio, and Mathieu Cherkit.

Over the weekend, Nanzuka in Tokyo presented a special show in association with adidas Originals from the legendary Keiichi Tanaami featuring his special mix of surreal imagery influenced by childhood memories such as the Great Tokyo Air Raid of World War II. This Saturday night (February 2nd), Thinkspace in Los Angeles will be opening a solo exhibition from Kisung Koh entitled Way of Life II. For his first showing in the main space, the Toronto-based artist will be presenting a series of works featuring animal subjects set in an allegorical universe often steeped with a sense of loss and longing. For this particular body of work, the Korean artist will be exploring the necessity of interrelationships in nature intermixing realism with surreal elements.

Tonight in Los Angeles, Copro Gallery will be opening a group show curated by artist Chet Zar (interviewed) and collector, author, musician Jeremy Wagner. Entitled CONJOINED VS. GROTESQUE, the show slanted towards the dark arts will continue Zar’s series of shows mainly featuring sculptural work as well as painting and drawings from fine artists, motion picture and music industry artists, and special F/X technicians. Jeff Soto for Empellón Al Pastor (New York)

After creating murals for Empellón Taqueria in New York a few years ago (covered), Jeff Soto (interviewed) has returned to paint for another restaurant from chef Alex Stupak. Empellón Al Pastor in the Pod 39 Hotel features three pieces from the Riverside, California-based artist utilizing his signature imagery.
