Preview/Installation: Date Farmers – “Smother Your Mother” @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

The Coachella Valley collective Date Farmers (aka: Armando Lerma and Carlos Ramirez) are about to open up a new solo at Jonathan Levine Gallery. “Smother Your Mother” is truly as it sounds – we were overwhelmed by the colors, mediums and works that were created when we stop by the gallery to check out their installation progress. Really rolling up their sleeves, Armando and Carlos were focused on creating an environment that grabs at the viewers, from Yoda, Prison Shanks, and their trademark symbols on found material, […]

Preview: Amanda Visell – “Primeval Love” @ the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles

Los Angeles based artist and master of wood figures, Amanda Visell, opens her solo show “Primeval Love” tonight, April 9th, at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. Visell’s artwork has a retro-vintage feel to it like classic Disney work and it appears she has tailored her subject matter to match the locale perfectly. With imagery that includes her twist on Greek mythology, wooly mammoths, dragons, castles and statues, the new body of work will fit in seamlessly in the museum setting. Take a look […]

Streets: Banksy & Robbo (Take 4)

By now, you all use be familiar with the Banksy and Robbo situation in Camden. It didn’t take long for Team Robbo to respond to the recent modifications to the four stencils at the canal by either some enterprising fans of the street artist or Mr. B himself. With one of the recent changes in an apparent response to a facebook image that Robbo’s crew found offensive, it’s no longer clear who all is involved in this fiasco as we are pretty sure that Banksy […]

Openings: Roa @ Pure Evil Gallery

Looks like the first look at Roa’s show comes from gifted street photographer, RomanyWG, as he stopped by to take some photos of the pieces and installations at the Pure Evil Gallery. As with Roa’s show in Paris, his paintings look to be on found items or well constructed objects with moving parts that allow a juxtaposition of multiple layers of overlaying painting surfaces. More images after the jump.

Preview / Setup: Anthony Pontius / “Vision” and “Hunt & Gather” Group Shows @ Thinkspace

Tomorrow, April 9th, a trio of shows are scheduled to welcome Thinkspace Gallery to the Culver City art district (6009 Washington Blvd., Culver City, CA 90232). For their inaugural opening night in their more upscale and larger space (formerly the home of Kinsey DesForges and BLK/MRKT), Anthony Pontius will be bringing a new body of work for the main gallery, this time centered on his own unique take on potraiture, entitled “the caped cobra and his merry band of riders”. Also, two group shows in […]

Check it out. Some pictures from inside David Choe’s (featured) LA bat-cave where he’s neck deep working on his new body of work for the coming solo “Nothing to Declare”. As mentioned, David’s batting in the lead-off spot for the new LAzarides 90210 pop up gallery this summer. More insane Choe-ness after the jump.

More preview images after the jump.

Streets: LUDO

Parisian artist LUDO (interviewed) took time recently to put up some new works in the streets even while working on his first solo show next month in Paris. We are definitely looking forward to seeing how his works translate in the gallery setting, but from the look of things, he’s continuing to explore his “Nature’s Revenge” series. Ron English x Slash Hudson “R & FN’ R” Album Cover

Off the heels of news that D*Face designed Christina Aguilera’s new album cover comes more news that Ron English (featured) designed the album cover for Slash’s (of Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver fame) solo album.  The album, entitled “R & FN’ R” features a skull and crossbones with a hat, all rendered in classic English style. Also if you look closer, you can see Ron English “angels” worked into the paisley swirls in the background. More detailed views after the jump.
