Teaser: KAWS @ Galería Javier López

A pretty big show that seems to have been flying under the radar is KAWS’ upcoming show this month in Spain. Galería Javier López will be paying host to a new body of work from the New York-based street turned contemporary artist with the opening set for February 17th. It’s been almost a year since his solo at Honor Fraser and we’re sure that we aren’t the only ones fiendin’ for their KAWS fix. Discuss KAWS here.

Well, if so, you are in luck because Hurley has done a video profile of Philly-based sculptor and photographer Adam Wallacavage. You may remember said octopus chandeliers from our article about his work with Tarino Tarantino or his documentation of ESPO’s “A Love Letter For You” project. One of the most exciting galleries showing emerging art talent in Culver City, David Kordansky Gallery had a colorful and visually stunning booth at Art Los Angeles Contemporary that contained a mixture of mediums, including painting, sculpture, and photography. It included artists from their excellent gallery roster, including Amy Bessone, Aaron Curry, Mark Flores, Ruby Neri, Anthony Pearson, Mai-Thu Perret, and Lesley Vance. Showing alongside Miss Van tonight at Merry Karnowsky Gallery is Barcelona-based artist Victor Castillo. He follows up his debut show there last August with a new body of work entitled “Strange Fruit.” His deeply satirical work often takes what initially seem like harmless children – well, sausage nosed children – which on second look are engaged in situations they should not be involved in, with dangerous overtones all around. Kehinde Wiley x PUMA (Paris Opening)

You may recall a project we told you about recently between Kehinde Wiley and PUMA for the World Cup this year. If you remember, the exhibition of paintings Kehinde created of three African soccer stars as well as a portrait with all three together representing the unity of Africa traveled to Berlin for an official unveiling. Sickboy – “Logopop Bristol” @ Friend & Co. Gallery

This week will see somewhat of a homecoming for UK street artist Sickboy as he opens the second installment (first was in London) of his Logopop shows at Friend & Co. Gallery in Bristol this Friday, February 5th. Widely known in the streets of the UK for his signature yellow and red temples, Sickboy promises a site specific installation using mixed media and digital technology alongside his interconnecting Logopop pieces plus other original artwork.
