One of the artists that most impressed us at Art Basel, Mark Ryden, is set to show in one of Japan’s most prestigious galleries Tomio Koyama in February. Openings: Deth P. Sun @ Rowan Morrison

Oakland artist Deth P. Sun had his first solo show in his hometown since 2002 yesterday entitled “This Too Shall Pass” at the Rowan Morrison Gallery. Especially eye catching was the wall of small paintings carefully fitted together seen above. The exhibition closes on February 14th with the release of his first published book, â€œI See It All.” The 64-page book replicates the sequence, size and paper-weight of one of Sunâ€™s moleskin journals. Thinkspace and Ad Hoc Art pulled out all the stops for the opening of “From the Streets of Brooklyn” (teased and previewed) and Los Angeles was out in full force, packing the gallery to the brim to scope out the work from Brooklyn’s best graf writers, wheatpasters, muralists, and stencilers. Last night, Jonathan Levine hosted an exclusive friends and family viewing of James Jean’s Kindling. The Chelsea gallery was filled from the opening minutes with many New York art notables including: Susan Sarandon, Eric White, David Choe, Jonathan Viner, Esao Andrew, Travis Louie, and Molly Crabapple. Italian street artist Ericailcane starts off the New Year with his first Los Angeles solo exhibition, “Man Is The Bastard,” opening 7pm tonight at the Carmichael Gallery. Seen on the Streets: Ellis G.

Brooklyn chalk artist extraordinaire Ellis G. went to town on Santa Monica Blvd. last night as part of “From the Streets of Brooklyn” (teased and previewed) opening 7pm tonight at Thinkspace. His chalk etchings capture the shadows of everyday street objects and their surrounding environment. Anything that casts a shadow is fair game: bikes, fences, lightposts, and even full city blocks. Ron English’s “Mythographic Vicissitudes” (previewed) and Alex Pardee’s “Letters From Digested Children” opened last night at Fifty24SF. English reinterpreted some “myths” with this body of work showing off his skills by utilizing different styles of painting.Â Alex Pardee took on the serious topic of missing children by creating a body of work showing children who are eaten by monsters.
