Coinciding with the start of Basel Week Switzerland, an exclusive opening night on June 12th was held for KAWS’ latest solo showing. Three years since his debut show with the gallery (covered), the New York-based artist is back in Giswil for another exclusive showcase with More Gallery. Showing: Tom Sachs – “Tea Ceremony” @ Noguchi Museum

Tom Sachs’ current exhibition (through July 24) is unprecedented in the 30 year history of the Noguchi Museum in that he is the first artist to be awarded a solo at the institution other than the original founder. The collection of works are the American artist’s homage to the ancient Japanese tradition of chanoyu, the ceremonial preparation and presentation of tea. Previews: Edwin Ushiro – “Capturing What Still Glimmers” @ Giant Robot 2

Tomorrow night at Giant Robot 2 in Los Angeles, Edwin Ushiro (interviewed) will be opening a new solo show entitled Capturing What Still Glimmers. Employing a laborious and unique technique (mark making and painting, then scanning and outputting to acrylic, Lucite or Plexiglass and then painted once again), the locally based artist is able to achieve a luminosity and ethereal quality to his work. The dream-like effect only enhances the nostalgic feel to his imagery as it harkens back to the experiences of his youth and the myths of Hawaii where he once resided. […]

Currently on view at Joseph Gross Gallery in Chelsea, NY is Refuge, a solo exhibition featuring thirteen works by Peter Gronquist. The show includes all-new pieces that combine creative uses of material, such as LED lights, shaped frames, and silk flowers, with traditional painting techniques. The pieces interact with the viewer both spatially, with paintings that appear to be falling on top as they look up, such as with Master Cleanse, and visually, with its pleasant rich blue gradient. Glitch 1 and 2 appear to allude […]

Showing: Boris “Delta” Tellegan @ Rose Beton Festival

With the focus of the Rose Beton Festival in Toulouse this year on graffiti, artists Craig Costello, Futura, Mist, Tilt, and Boris Tellegen were asked to create installations at the Musee des Abattoirs in an exhibition entitled EPOXY. For his part, Tellegen (otherwise known as DELTA), contributed a sculpture, small painting and associated wall mural for the event. The highlight of course was the robot like sculpture, created in the architecturally-informed abstract style the Dutch artist perfected on the streets of Amsterdam. Discuss Boris “Delta” Tellegen here.
