Basel Week Miami ’13: Audrey Kawasaki for Thinkspace @ SCOPE

Just like earlier last year for SCOPE during Basel Week Switzerland (covered), the Thinkspace Gallery booth in Miami was also featured a mini-solo show from Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed). Included in the new body of work were her familiar exquisite portraiture of seductively innocent girls, with her technique taking advantage of the wood grain in each piece. Take a look at more photos below… Discuss Audrey Kawasaki here.

Showing: Kelsey Brookes – “Better Living Through Chemistry” @ Judith Charles Gallery

We stopped by Kelsey Brookes‘ first solo exhibition recently in New York at Judith Charles Gallery. Entitled Better Living Through Chemistry, this show features a large body of work focusing in on his abstract paintings and musings via eye catching molecular structures. This style is also based on his scientific background and delves further into drugs and its effect on the human consciousness. The paintings, large and small in scale, filled the two floor gallery space and is pretty psychedelic to experience in person. This show runs […]

Paintings: Yayoi Kusama – “I Who Have Arrived In Heaven” @ David Zwirner Gallery

By now, you’ve all heard the monumental buzz that this Yayoi Kusama’s exhibition I Who Have Arrived In Heaven has created with lines that exponentially grew from 30-45 mins to 4-6 hours in the course of less than a month. Mind you, art lovers endured near freezing NYC weather to take in the one minute zen experience of being one on one with Kusama’s Souls of Millions of Light Years Away (experienced here) infinity room installation. What many may not have known is that powerhouse gallery David Zwirner gave […]

Update: James Jean

James Jean (interviewed) recently shared the first painting for 2014 that he has been working on. Fans of the talented artist have probably noticed that he has been on a sabbatical recently and anxiously await his return to the gallery scene – hopefully this will be the year. In the meantime, 2013 saw the release of his iBook, the revival of his Instagram, a new tumblr site showcasing new and old works.  Discuss James Jean here.

Basel Week Miami ’13: Daniel Arsham – “Future Relic”

One of the launch events during Art Basel Week was Future Relic by Daniel Arsham (seen above with artist DRx Romanelli). Presented by OHWOW Gallery, this event served to debut a collaborative film starring Daniel with fashion designer Richard Chai and features Ben Louis Nicholas as the director of photography and music created by Swiss Beats. This mysterious film draws visual language cues from Lawrence of Arabia and part one (seen below) sets up a journey where Arsham’s “future relics” are found. More parts of the film will […]

Next week in Portland (January 9th), the Breeze Block Gallery will be welcoming in Alex Lukas for a solo show entitled Prints & Photographs; Copies & Concrete. The recently relocated artist will be presenting new works in a wide range of mediums all centered on the tradition of printmaking as a tool for multiples. We had the opportunity to interview him leading up […]

Showing: ROA – “Paper Trails” @ White Walls (Project Space)

Showing through this Saturday (January 4th) at the White Walls project space in San Francisco is a solo from ROA. Presented in a format seen previously from the Belgium-based street artist, the work was interposed throughout the gallery set up like the workspace of a field biologist full of drawings, tools, and evidence of field research. Of course, the imagery presented featured his signature dissections, anatomical details, and interactive qualities. Discuss ROA here.

Showing: Dan Quintana – “Desensitized 13” @ Copro Gallery

Showing through this Saturday is the joint exhibition from Bian Viveros (featured) & Dan Quintana at Copro Gallery entitled Desensitized 13. We already shared with you the contributions from Viveros here, so now it’s time to take a look at Quintana’s work. Rendered with his delicate touch, his feminine heroines live in a fantasy world inhabited by skeletal creatures while swathed in colors. Also included were several collaborative pieces with Viveros… Discuss Dan Quintana here.
