Upcoming: Tom French – “Duality” @ C.A.V.E Gallery

This Saturday night, the last day of August, the C.A.V.E Gallery in Venice, California will be opening a new show from Tom French (featured). Featuring a series of paintings that followup the skull paintings we enjoy so much, the new faces the UK-based artist has been working on also have more depth than meets the eye on first glance. Streets: Nunca (Los Angeles)

Over the weekend, Brazilian artist Nunca finally finished a mural he has been working on all week in the heart of Los Angeles for the TARFEST Music and Art Festival. The massive piece (arranged by Merry Karnowsky Gallery & Launch Gallery) features imagery quite appropriate for the location with a series of paparazzi figures painted in the street artist’s distinctive style. On September 7th, the Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles will be presenting New Works from accomplished portraitist Matt Doust. Australian artist duo Dabs Myla, opened their latest solo show on the 17th of August at White Walls Gallery in SF (previewed). With the concept being more of “an intimate installation” than just a show, the artists turned part of a gallery into an immersive experience. The Wooster Collective recently celebrated their 10th anniversary of existence with a massive show at New York’s Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Streets: INSA for The Vaford Gates (Hong Kong)

Earlier this month, the UK-based INSA returned to Hong Kong for a set of murals at The Vaford Gates in Chai Wan. If you remember, the street artist know for his heel motifs had a show in the city-state in 2011 at the Above Second Gallery. The project at this former old factory building location plans to feature a rotating cast of local and international artist so we’ll be sure to see more action soon… Discuss INSA here.

Preview: KAWS for MTV VMA’s

With this year’s Video Music Awards from MTV only several days away, installation has already started for the event. As mentioned when news first broke of KAWS’ involvement with the design of the special 30th installment of the award show, held in Brooklyn for the first time, there was going to be a a 60-foot Moonman (this year’s prize also remixed with the Brooklyn-based artist’s design) on stage, his tallest Companion ever. Preview: Travis Louie – “Tiny Theatre of The Absurd” @ Stranger Factory

Starting on September 6th, the Stranger Factory in Albuquerque will be hosting a two person show entitled Tiny Theatre of The Absurd from Travis Louie’s (interviewed) and Jean Labourdette a.k.a. Turf One. For his part, Louie will be contributing some small pieces and some mixed media works on paper featuring his black & white portraits, rendered like vintage photos, of imaginary creatures and human oddities.
