Streets: Anthony Lister @ theAudience (Los Angeles)

Australian artist Anthony Lister recently arrived in Los Angeles to paint a new large scale mural at the offices of the theAudience. Continuing to use the thematic imagery tied in with the ballerina, Lister created a mural that not only shows off his signature style, but one that also shows he can move effortlessly between the confines of a studio and the open spaces of city streets. This mural sits in the the same building where JR pasted one of his pieces more than a year ago (covered), and […]

Streets: Escif (Valencia)

Spanish muralist and street artist, Escif, was very active in his hometown of Valencia in Spain the last couple of months. Famous for his clever, direct and punchy commentaries on modern society, capitalism, consumerism, economy and politics (especially current situation in Spain and European Union), the artist shared couple of his recent street works online via StreetAgainst.com. Focused on wide range of different subjects, the pieces are all showcased with his signature, recognizable style – a simple, almost innocent looking image that is hiding a […]

Florentijn Hofman’s Giant Rubber Duck (Hong Kong)

Currently on view through June 9th at Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour is Florentijn Hofman’s giant inflatable duck, providing an interesting contrast to the spectacular skyline view. The project from the Dutch artist known for his large-scale outdoor sculptures originated in 2007 and has since traveled the world, hitting cities like Sao Paulo, Auckland, Sydney, and Osaka. The piece is six stories high and is being sponsored by Harbour City, known for their previous shows with artists like KAWS and Yue Minjun. Photo credit: Kalvin_T via […]

Openings: Stacey Rozich – “Within Without Me” @ Roq la Rue

With rising notoriety, local artist Stacey Kozich’s Within Without Me exhibition kicked off the Roq la Rue Gallery’s new Pioneer Square location with a jam packed crowd. Rozich’s bright color palette drew in patrons as they made their way through the neighborhood’s monthly artwalk. The gallery was quickly filled as they explored the inner workings of the exhibition. From afar, the masked characters seem peaceful enough, but when you get in close, the pieces convey a much darker sentiment. While some creatures exhibit exuberance, others […]

Streets: Blu (Italy)

The recently dormant Blu has woken up with a series of murals in Southern Italy protesting the the construction of a Mobile User Objective System, an array of satellites being developed for the United States Department of Defense. Although unproven, the local people believe that their are health risks of long-term exposure to the high-power transmissions and have mounted major protests against the station being bulit there. Openings: JR – “The Wrinkles of the City” @ Galerie Henrik Springmann (Berlin)

As you have seen from our coverage of murals going up all over Berlin, JR (interviewed) was in town for a show. The Wrinkles of the City opened several weeks ago at Galerie Henrik Springmann with photographs, wheatpasted found objects, as well as a rare video installation from the French photograffeur. As you can see above, even one of the models he used for the street work made it to the opening. Check out more photos below… Photo credit: Positive-Propaganda. Discuss JR here.

Openings: KAWS – “Ohhh…” @ Kaikai Kiki

Just hours ago, Murakami’s Kaikai Kiki Gallery in Tokyo hosted the opening of KAWS‘ latest solo show entitled Ohh… The exhibition has been a long time coming for the NY-based artist’s fans and collectors in Japan, also home to his OriginalFake store. Along with exploring a slightly different color palette with rectangular pieces, some of his popular tondo paintings were also included in this new body of work. Although his love for SpongeBob is present throughout, the centerpieces of the show saw the return of two […]
