Takashi Murakami Studio Look (Part II)

After sharing some photos with you from Takashi Murakami’s studio at the beginning of the year, we now take a second look as he recently posted new images up on his Instagram (@takashipom). POW WOW ’13: Streets Summary

After another enjoyable retreat in Hawaii for AM, it’s time to wrap up another successful POW WOW (see all our coverage here). Releases: Jeff Soto – “Seeker Friends: The Wise” Prints

Starting on March 7th at Noon (PST) for 24 hours, the newest timed release from Jeff Soto (interviewed) will be released from Prints On Wood. Again, the print will be sized at 6″ x 6″ and priced at $25 (with $1 from every print going to plantabillion.org to plant one tree). The newest Seeker Friend is entitled The Wise and was inspired by the Riverside-based artist’s travels in Hawaii for POW WOW. Preview: Kenny Scharf – “Kolors” @ Paul Kasmin

The Standard (Highline) in New York will be putting a new sculptural work from Kenny Scharf on display in the hotel’s plaza. Entitled Squirtz, the large physical personification of the Los Angeles-based artist’s imagery will be on view for the public through April 1st at which point it will move to the Paul Kasmin Gallery. Upcoming: Erik Parker – “Upswing Dub Project” @ Pace Prints

This week, painter Erik Parker will unveil a new series of monoprints at New York’s Pace Prints. Entitled Upswing Dub Project, this show will be Erik’s inaugural exhibition at the iconic space. Utilizing his unique painting style and compositions, Mr. Parker collages rarities and other “miscreations” from his storied repertoire in this creative body of works. The show opens March 7th with an opening reception with the artist from 6-8pm.

Openings: COPE2 – “Hypnotic” @ Gallery 69

Bronx bomber and graff artist COPE2 continued his indoor showcases with a show at Gallery 69 in New York. Entitled Hypnotic, this exhibition is another step in the evolution of his signature bubble throw ups and wildstyle compositions. Cope2 worked layers upon layers of abstraction on this fresh series of canvases showing a nice change of pace from the works we’ve been used to seeing from his street works. Check it all out below. Openings: Katrin Fridriks @ Art13 (London)

Over the weekend at the Art13 art fair in London, the Circle Culture Gallery featured some paintings from Katrin Fridriks at their booth in the Olympia Grand Hall. Preview: WK Interact – “360” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

On Friday night (March 8th), Jonathan LeVine Gallery will be welcoming in WK Interact for his second solo with the showspace at a temporary location (557 West 23rd Street). 360 is meant to be a mid-career survey of WK’s work, celebrating the last 25 years of the French-born, New York-based artist’s career. Upcoming / Armory Week ’13: Thinkspace @ SCOPE

With Armory Week upon us with the fairs opening later this week, New York will be beset by collectors, artists, and gallerists soon. Streets: Liqen (Ecuador)

Mexican artist Liqen recently headed south to spend some time on the Ecuadorian Pacific coast.  Besides enjoying some good food, the street muralist did some birdwatching and sketching different species of these winged creatures. Inspired by the experience, he recently painted this wood building in Esmeraldas although some of the things he painted may be from his impressive imagination.
