The Tate Modern in London recently brought together William Klein (New York) and Daido Moriyama (Tokyo), two of the most iconic photograpers and film-makers of the 20th century, for an excellent retrospective. Experimental photography, film, graphic design and the role of the photo book are the main focus of both artists. A couple weeks ago, the Quint Contemporary Art in San Diego hosted all new works from local artist Kelsey Brookes. Entitled Serotonin; Happiness and Spiritual States, the show featured his representations of various neurotransmitter molecules colored with the various intereactions they have on our mental status. The vibrant and colorful patterns were repeated over a series of small, medium, and large paintings. Recently, the James Cohan Gallery hosted Trenton Doyle Hancock‘s show, appropriately titled …And Then It All Came Back To Me. This is an incredible body of work, and as timing sometimes goes, brought out the ‘best of the best’ in the post Sandy NYC Chelsea arts district. Ryan McGinley Photographs Karlie Kloss For New York Times

Like his previous photography work with Sienna Miller for Vogue and video for Pringle of Scotland, Ryan McGinley has already had several fashion projects under his belt. His latest shoot for the The New York Times is no different as he was enlisted to take photos of model Karlie Kloss for part of their travel series for T Magazine with this particular session set in Nicaragua. Streets: Mear One (Los Angeles)

Another day, another impressive mural from Mear One (interviewed). This latest wall is located in Culver City and features some of the apocalyptical-illuminati imagery that is often seen in his work as well as puts the LA-based street artist’s top-notch technical skills on display. This piece was part of series of works in support for Prop 37 leading up to the election and the fight for labeling of genetically modified foods (see video below for more info). Every year, legions of people from around the nation flock to NYC for a little Thanksgiving time with friends & family. During this busy holiday weekend, one of the traditions is the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. The day before the parade, tens of thousands visit the staging area to observe the balloon inflation ceremony next to the American Museum of Natural History. Thanksgiving sees another worthy release from MOCAtv featuring Caledonia “Swoon” Curry (interviewed) and her time in Haiti. In the video, the NY-based artist talks about how she enjoys working on things outside of her studio, which can be confining at times.
