As with many other artists followed by AM in the past, it looks like James Jean (featured) has been tapped to provided the cover art for Talib Kweli’s new album Prisoner of Conscious. Featuring the LA-based artist’s intricate stylings as a mask, the American rapper has chosen the title from his constant labeling as a “conscious rapper” and as a play off Nigerian reggae artist Majek Fashek’s album named Prisoner of Conscience. Last week, AM attended the much anticipated opening for Kris Kuksi’s latest body of work entitled Triumph. The solo exhibition held at New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery was his most impressive yet. A few weekends back in Los Angeles, Luis De Jesus opened a group exhibition entitled Dualities, Omissions, Loops, and Ruptures, featuring local artists Chris Engman, Cody Trepte, Samantha Roth, and John Houck. The cleverly curated grouping brought together four artists as disparate in technique as they are unified in purpose, collectively weaving between photography, film, drawing, print, and sculpture in order to explore ideas of “constructed realities” and “emotional dualities” in their own individual ways. Recently, Nick Walker (interviewed) took a little trip across the pond to Chi-town hoping to spread a little Vandal love. With the weather finally cooperating Nick packed his freshly cut stencils and hit the streets of Chicago. Coming up this Saturday night (March 24th), the LeBasse Projects in Chinatown will be presenting a collection sculptural works from Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) that he has been working for the last several years. The showing, entitled Jokes On Me…, features customized figures of iconic toys from childhood as well his own creations putting his skills with a range of mediums including plaster, resin, vinyl, clay and wood. Streets: JR x Liu Bolin (Part II)

Yesterday, we gave you an inside look at the collaborative project between Liu Bolin and JR (featured). During the first part of the day, the French artist wheat-pasted up a beautiful photo mural of the Liu. Now, we get to see Chinese artist return the favor and camouflage JR into his own art with his signature touch. After a showing in San Francisco at the beginning of this year, Hush (interviewed) has moved on to Melbourne to prepare for his next exhibition scheduled for May at the Metro Gallery. On March 31st, Fumi Nakamura will be putting a new body of work on display at Thinkspace Gallery’s project room. The New York-based Japanese artist works with graphite & color pencils, and has been creating interesting clusters of animals, birds, humans, plant life in various configurations. Last week, the Brooklyn Museum unveiled a special exhibition entitled Keith Haring: 1978-1982. The amazing retrospective chronicles the specific period of time when Keith Haring left his home of Pennsylvania to attend New York’s School of Visual Arts during which he met friends and peers such as Jean Michel Basquiat and Kenny Scharf. Haring’s integration and experimentation of both studio and street works are explored through 155 works on paper, seven videos and 150 archival objects – among them sketchbooks, journals, posters and subway drawings.
