Studio Visit / Preview: Armsrock – “Stedfortrædere” @ MOHS Exhibit

After a showing in Århus in February, Armsrock (interviewed) continues the tour of his native country with an exhibition in Copenhagen at MOHS Exhibit. Entitled Stedfortrædere (translated to Delegates), the joint show in Denmark opening on March 16th will also feature the work of Sif Itona Westerberg. The latest mural by Bumblebee, part of his ongoing series highlighting the plight of children affected by homelessness, has gone up in Los Angeles. Last week, the Suzanne Geiss Company in New York presented their inaugural exhibition RAMMELLZEE: THE EQUATION. The late graffiti and performance artist’s work was heavily based on his various theories, especially his vision of battle between letters and their symbolic warfare against any standardizations enforced by the rules of the alphabet. Armory Week ’12: Volta Show – First Look

Continuing our Armory Week coverage we move on to Volta. This fair is the little brother to the main Armory Art Show (here & here). For Volta, selected galleries don’t exhibit various artists from their roster, instead they focus on one artist to showcase at their booth. This rule kept our head spinning to a minimum, but nonetheless the visual talent had our eyes dancing around the whole time. Check it out after the jump.

After Mark Jenkins (interviewed) opens his show in Rome and wraps up his street interventions there, he will be needed to help judge the Scotch Off the Roll Tape Sculpture Contest for 2012 just like he did in 2010. Last time we saw El Mac and Augustine Kofie (featured) collaborating, they were working on a mural in honor of DASH 2000 (covered), a former member of the UTI (Under The Influence) graffiti crew, who recently passed away due to cancer complications. Last week, the Gallery 1988 in Melrose hosted the second rendition of Is This Thing On?, a group show featuring artwork that pays tribute to famous comedians and their craft. Update: Faith47 & DAL

South Africa-based artists and newlyweds Faith47 and DAL recently sent over some images of their studio space as well as some things they have been working on. Besides their constant presence on the streets with their murals, they are also scheduled to make an appearance at Carbon next month and have a joint show in Melbourne at the Rtist Gallery in April. A new exhibition from Masakatsu Sashie recently opened up at the Mizuma Gallery in Tokyo featuring five new works from the Japanese artist. The title of the show, Invisible Hand, is taken from Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations and is a term used to describe the self-regulating nature of the marketplace into which, by trying to maximize their own gains, individual ambition benefits society.
