Andrew Schoultz Paints Winchester Skatepark (Las Vegas)

Continuing his longstanding work within skate culture, Andrew Schoultz recently completed a project in Las Vegas earlier this month at the skatepark at the Clark County Winchester Cultural Center. Working with his team, the Los Angeles-based artist painted the ramps, pyramids and other obstacles with his signature imagery including the all-seeing eye. In related news, Schoultz will return to the area on June 2nd when his show at UNLV’s Marjorie Barrick Museum opens. Streets: Peanuts Global Artist Collective (New York)

As mentioned in our introduction to the Peanuts Global Artist Collective earlier this month, murals featuring the work of some of the participating artists were unveiled in New York. Painted on the side of downtown office buildings on the West Side near Hudson Square, imagery inspired by Charles M. Schulz’s famous comic strip could be seen by passerby’s from Mr. A (seen above), AVAF, FriendsWithYou, Kenny Scharf, Tomokazu Matsuyama, and Rob Pruitt. Openings: JR x Massimo Bottura – “Le Reffettorio Paris”

Last month, Le Reffettorio Paris opened its doors with the help of famed chef Massimo Bottura of Osteria Francescana and artist JR (interviewed). Housed in the crypts of the historic Madeleine church in Paris’s 8th arrondissement, the concept behind the space fits nicely with the setting. Taking surplus ingredients from some of the city’s finest restaurants, Bottura and his team aim to serve 100 of the most socially vulnerable every night with a multi course meal – an upscale soup kitchen if you will. Openings: Takashi Murakami – “HEADS↔HEADS” @ Galerie Perrotin (New York)

Taking over three floors of Galerie Perrotin’s New York LES location, Takashi Murakami’s latest show was unveiled last night to the delight of his fans. Entitled HEADS↔HEADS, the body of work on display was dominated by a series of paintings inspired by the work of Francis Bacon as well as a monumental 33 feet long piece that was a homage to Japanese artist Soga Shohaku. From May 4th, Palais de Tokyo in Paris will pay tribute to the history and legacy of the May 1968 events with a intervention by Escif, where he reproduced some of the famous writings from that period of student revolts. His creation completes the project, which was started in 2015 by Greek artist Stelios Faitakis, who realized two murals dedicated to the legacy of the situationist movement and civil unrest of May 1968. This morning, KAWS announced the surprise release of a PINNOCHIO wood sculptural edition on his IG. Produced in a run of 100, this signed and numbered iteration of the famous puppet, remixed with the Brooklyn-based signature aesthetic, is a wood version of his previously released vinyl figure.
