Preview: Martin Wittfooth – “Gardens” @ Roq La Rue Gallery

This Friday, December 10th, Martin Wittfooth will be bringing a new body of work entitled Gardens to the Roq la Rue Gallery. Exhibiting alongside Mike Brown, Wittfooth paints his animalia from a different viewpoint – in a faded world where it seems the time of man has passed and all that is left are rusted monuments and infrastructure, the last vestiges of the human race. More preview images after the jump…

Preview: Atrophic Existence @ Show & Tell Gallery

Show & Tell Gallery looks set to round off a fine year with a fine group showing, Atrophic Existence, opening on December 11th. Kevin Cyr (interviewed), Mike Shankman, Jeff Gillette, and Alex Lukas all will be exhibiting new paintings with the shared theme of decay and disintegration of the urban landscape. Also included in the exhibition is an installation by Joshua Barndt entitled The World is a Mountain and Everything Gets Buried. Take a look at the short, but interesting trailer that Joshua made in […]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – David Kordansky Gallery

One of the galleries with the best stable of “emerging” artists at Art Basel Miami Beach was David Kordansky Gallery.  The Culver City, CA stalwart represented Los Angeles’ growing art scene to the fullest with fantastic pieces by such talked-about artists as Elad Lassry, Aaron Curry, and Kathryn Andrews.  Its booth was so hot that they reportedly sold-out their entire show.  See the pieces they exhibited after the jump…

Releases: Mark Jenkins – “Flower Signs & Twins”

Mark Jenkins is back in the house, this time with something for (almost) everyone. He’s released two editions based on his publicly installed pieces – Flower Signs and Twins. We at AM have always loved his unique sculptures & installations, but rarely do we see an editioned piece from Jenkins. What we like about this is that both are hand made and individually signed. Get yours here while you can. Check out the image of the twins after the jump.

Basel Week Miami ’10: Wynwood Walls

Last year, Wynwood Walls started out as an ambitious project to revive and reclaim the worndown Wynwood Arts District with art. This year, Tony Goldman upped the ante by expanding the project space with new works and installations by Ryan McGinness, Invader, Kenny Scharf, Ron English (featured), Jeff Soto’s (featured), Logan Hicks (interviewed), Friends With You and Shepard Fairey. In addition, a restaurant and a project gallery space were also created on-site to keep onlookers submerged in the arts. After checking out the space during […]

Preview / Setup: Andrew Schoultz – “Melt Down” @ Project Space

Working efficiently in the wake of his solo a few months back, Compound Eyes of the World (covered), Andrew Schoultz is ready to reveal a new body of work tomorrow, December 9th at Project Space in Los Angeles. Opening at the collaborative gallery effort between Arkitip and Incase, Melt Down will call upon all of the San Francisco artist’s vast mixed-media talents. Centered around a massive tank installation and a series of giant wall murals, it appears Schoultz will be modernizing his imagery a bit, […]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – Faurschou

Walking into Copenhagen and Beijing-based Faurschou’s booth at Art Basel Miami Beach was like walking into a carefully-curated, intimate museum show.  With pieces by Ai Weiwei (including a half-million dollar sunflower pile that was created pre-Tate), Cai Guo-Qiang, Robert Rauschenberg, and Lucian Freud, everywhere you looked, you saw near-masterpieces.  They certainly brought out the big guns, which you will see after the jump…

Preview: Mike Brown – “New Works” @ Roq La Rue Gallery

Opening this Friday, December 10th at Roq la Rue is Mike Brown’s joint show with Martin Wittfooth.  As you can see from the piece above, Failures of Perception, his colorful renderings of the natural world have become a little twisted. Take a look at some more preview images after the jump…

Studio Visits: Kid Zoom – “This City Will Eat Me Alive” @ Opera (Meatpacking)

This Saturday, December 11th (7pm), Kid Zoom is having his first ever US solo at a pop-up space (72 Gansevoort St. New York, NY 10014) in Manhattan’s Meatpacking district. The show is hosted by Opera Gallery and it looks to be pretty fresh. Ron English tipped us off on the Aussie artist a while back and we’ve been keeping an eye on him ever since. Looking forward to see the upcoming show, we dropped by KZ’s Brooklyn studio to catch him putting the final touches […]
