Nuart ’18 / Streets: Snik

Two weeks before the official start of the 18th edition of world-renowned Nuart Festival in Stavanger, exciting news is already arriving from the Norwegian oil capital. Taking this year’s theme to heart, Space Is The Place, and the festival’s aim to encourage artists to  to get off the beaten track and work outside the framework of the festival, art duo Snik created two new pieces, one of which was painted in the arrivals hall of Stavanger airport. Known for their intricate, hand-cut stencil works, Snik has seriously […]

Curated by Axel Void, through his new platform Void Projects, in close collaboration with the Konvent Zero art center, this unique project involved around 50 international artists who participated over the period of 2 months. Planned as a self-sufficient initiative which would provide artists the opportunity to work in a creative and motivating environment, the program turned into an utopia-come-true […]

Back in Danish capital after two years when he last exhibited his work alongside Todd James (covered), Barry Mcgee recently opened his debut solo with Eighteen gallery. Showing for the first time in this new Copenhagen space, the legendary artist constructed an immersive installation that took over the entire gallery, floor to ceiling, entrance door to emergency exit. With artworks being displayed everywhere from hidden corners above doorways to the backs of pedestals scattered through the place, the space was temporarily transformed into L. Fong Healing Arts Center. Showcasing […]

Streets – Upfest (2018) Bristol

Upfest returned to celebrate its 10th anniversary recently with approximately 350 artists from across the globe leaving their mark on the streets of Bristol. A central theme across the whole weekend was the 100 years which have passed since some women first got the right to vote in the UK. For example, Jody Thomas‘ gold-masked figure takes the meek and victimized Little Red Riding Hood from Victorian fairytales and recasts her as someone who is both eminently capable and confidently self-assured. The festival also saw The London Police bring their […]
