Showing: Cripta Djan – “In The Name Of Pixo” (Birmingham)

The Brazilian artist and pixação painter Cripta Djan is currently showing an exhibition entitled ‘In The Name Of Pixo’ at The Tramshed in Birmingham, UK. The history of graffiti is often told as a simple linear narrative with its singular root in the wall-writing of Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood and North Philadelphia in the late 1960s. However, this simplification ignores the multifaceted origins of the various strands of the global graffiti movement; these include the Old-English influenced Cholo graffiti from L.A.’s barrios, the Dishu ground calligraphy performed […]

Streets: Vhils – “Caniçada Dam Project” (Portugal)

Recently at the in Caniçada Dam in Northern Portugal, Vhils (interviewed) completed a striking new mural chiseled directly into the face of the water barrier. Created through EDP’s program of beautifying Portuguese dams with art and architecture, the new piece utilizing the Lisbon-based artist’s unique mark-making abilities features a “face inspired by the workers who gave their body and soul to the building of the dam, surrounded by a group of children and tree elements.” Take a look at more photos below… Photo credit: EDP & Pedro Santasmarinas […]

Showing: KAWS – “HOLIDAY” Floating Companion @ Seokchon Lake (Seoul)

Judging from these photos, the long teased project from KAWS in Seoul has finally launched with his inflatable companion deployed in Seokchon Lake. Returning to Korea (see 2016) with a 92-foot-long (28 meters) floating HOLIDAY version of his signature character (and associated merch), the Brooklyn-based artist has harnessed the perfect relaxed vibe for this summertime installation. This piece is KAWS’ largest work to date and was masterminded by AllRightsReserved, follow in the footsteps of other similar installations like Florentijn Hofman’s giant floating duck in Hong Kong (covered). Interviews / Studio Visits: Sickboy

Sickboy’s red and yellow temples have been adorning Bristol’s dumpsters since the turn of the millennium.  Appearing like flowers blooming in the desert, their byzantine and seductive forms stand in stark contrast to the utilitarian and mundane objects on which they appear. The artist’s studio work has previously seen a broad array of cultural details filtered through a deeply surrealist imagination to create works which at one moment appear comforting and reassuring and at the next moment appear unnerving and unsettling. More recently, the canvases have seen […]

Showing: “Greatest Hits” Banksy Exhibition @ Lazinc

Last week, Lazinc in London opened a show featuring some of Banksy’s most iconic works (gleaned from private collections), focusing in on the 2002-2008 period of his career. Coinciding with some of the time Steve Lazarides spent as the elusive street artist’s photographer and gallerist, the work curated for the exhibition include stenciled canvases, unique paintings, sculptural pieces, limited-edition prints and more. Although not officially sanctioned by Banksy, the 40 or so pieces (supposedly not for sale) assembled along with Lazarides’ (who hasn’t spoken to the […]

Returning to Hong Kong almost a decade after his last exhibition (and arrest) there (covered), Zevs currently has a show on view at Over The Influence. Entitled Supreme Même, the new body of work consisting of new canvas works, installation pieces, performance and sculpture mainly focuses in on the fetishized relationship between two powerhouse brands – Louis Vuitton and Supreme. Seen through the lens of his iconic “Liquidation” effect, the French artist continues his self defined goal questioning the power of brands by destabilizing their logos […]

Streets: Jaune (Stavanger)

Ahead of the 18th edition of Nuart Festival in Stavanger, Norway, our friends from the world-renowned street art platform just announced a new addition to their series of curated Street Art Buses. After Ernest Zacharevic (Lithuania), Add Fuel (Portugal), Martin Whatson (Norway), Hama Woods (Norway) in 2016 (covered), and M-City (Poland) in 2017 (covered), the latest artwork comes courtesy of Belgian stencil artist Jaune.
