Showings: HuskMitNavn – “One Of These Days” @ V1 Gallery

After being introduced the intriguing outdoor works of HuskMitNavn during Komafest (covered) last year, we were curious to see how his work translated to the gallery setting. A showing at the V1 Gallery entitled One Of These Days gave us this opportunity to see some new drawings and paintings from the Danish artist in his characteristic colorful, humorous, and cartoonish style. Head over for a look yourself if you are in the area through February 16th. Photo credit: Henrik Haven.

Openings: Aakash Nihalani – “Portal” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Over the weekend, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery hosted all new work from Aakash Nihalani alongside the solo from Haroshi (covered). Nihalani’s innovative geometric forms, collectively entitled Portal, featured a playful nature throughout the compositions, yet at the same time exhibited a strong sense of structure. In the NY-based artist’s words – “I try to create a new visual space within the physical confines of any piece I work on, through the illusion of three-dimensional imagery contained on a two-dimensional plane. When looking at the work—orientation shifts, shapes merge, direction inverts, foreground […]

Releases: KRINK x Coach Collection

It looks like another company has tapped the art world for a collaborative line of products with the announcement of new joint venture from Coach and Craig Costello. The Brooklyn-based artist, otherwise known as KRINK (who we last saw activity from in LA, Miami, and Hawaii), will be part of the Spring/Summer collection with a series of bags, wallets, and accessories – all featuring his signature drip aesthetic. Look for a release online and at select stores beginning late February and then until the end […]

Streets: devNgosha @ theAudience (Los Angeles)

Newly formed art collective devNgosha recently stopped by the offices of theAudience and painted a new mural entitled Connected. Situated in the same building that houses work from JR (covered) and Kozyndan (covered), this new multi-wall project combines the talents of Devin Liston and Gosha Levochkin. In the past, Devin’s work has always had a strong emphasis on portrait work and during his time as part of Cyrcle., he helped formed a style that gave that group a multi-faceted approach to their art. On the other hand, Gosha’s work has […]

Streets: Roa & Ever (Buenos Aires)

The anatomical dissections of local animals and Chinese propaganda, two types of imagery that you wouldn’t think would work as a collaboration. However, that is exactly what happened when ROA and Ever joined forces in Argentina for a joint mural entitled The people feed communism to the beast. This piece, painted over the Christmas holiday, was placed on a squatted building in Palermo Viejo in Buenos Aires and features Mao head offered up to an elephant seal. Photo credit: Graffitimundo. Prolific artist Escif recently started a series of murals entitled Les Fleurs Du Mal, or The Flowers of Evil painted in different cities in Europe like Besançon (France), Zagreb (Croatia), Navarra & Albacete (Spain), Niort (France), and his home city of Valencia (Spain). The different species of flowers (like hemlock, nightshade, wolfsbane, and more), all beautiful in their own right, all have deadly effects when combined with human biology. Streets: Elbow-Toe – “Tastes Like Chicken” (New York)

It’s been a while since we caught up with Brian Adam Douglas, a.k.a. Elbow-Toe (interviewed) – the last time probably being in 2011 when we watcheuphill work on the streets as well as open a solo at Black Rat Projects (covered). The Brooklyn-based artist recently surfaced to paste up this new piece entitled Tastes Like Chicken in his borough. The style mimics the time-intensive collage technique he uses for his cut-paper works some of which you can see in March at the Andrew Edlin Booth at The Armory Show in NYC […]

Streets: James “DALEK” Marshall (Corona Del Mar)

Continuing to produce public displays of his geometric mastery, James Marshall aka Dalek (interviewed) recently painted another mural at the Hobie Surf Shop in Corona Del Mar. Orange County is kind of ground zero for fans of the American artist’s work because of his affiliation with Hurley – leading to many shows, product lines, and associated events in and around Hurley Space. Check out some more shots below… Photo credit: James Ng for Arrested Motion. Discuss DALEK here.
