Videos: Pow Wow Hawaii 2012 (Part 1)

It feels like only yesterday when we finished up the phenomenal gathering of street artists known as POW WOW. Expanding both the presence inside and out, this year’s event took a giant leap to expand upon its premiere last year in Hawaii. Check out a slick look put together by Banzai Media at the outdoor works by a slew of international artists as they visually transformed the industrial neighborhood of Kaka’ako to psych you up for 2013!

Last week, the V1 Gallery in Copenhagen opened up Free To be You & Me, a new solo from the Todd James. Known as REAS back in the day New York’s early graffiti legends, more recently James has been painting his cartoonish mix of pirates, girls, and war-infused imagery with this show being no different. Upcoming: Thinkspace Curated “LAX / HKG” @ Above Second

On November 16th, the Above Second Gallery in Hong Kong will be welcoming in Thinkspace to curate a group show at their showspace (like we did for our East West Connect show last year). Slated to contribute pieces for the show are artists Amy Sol, Audrey Kawasaki, Brian M. Viveros, Dabs Myla, Esao Andrews, Joao Ruas, Linnea Strid, and Yosuke Ueno. Openings: “Baby Tattooville Inside Out: A Private Affair Made Public” @ Riverside Art Museum

Last Friday night, the Riverside Art Museum hosted the opening for the annual exhibition associated with the Baby Tattooville event in the neighboring Mission Inn. As usual, the showing (this year entitled Baby Tattooville Inside Out: A Private Affair Made Public) featured work from the artists who were participating in this year’s art retreat including Coop, Mark Frauenfelder, Brandi Milne (seen above), Nouar, Kathie Olivas, Nathan Ota, Brandt Peters, Ragnar, Rob Reger, and RISK, all who made it out to the opening reception. Streets: David Ellis – Mobile Arts (NYC)

We recently caught up with New York artist David Ellis as he completed a mobile arts project. The Barnstormer and Pulse prize winner took two white freight trucks and transformed them in wild Ellis fashion. Giving them color and life, Ellis worked all facets of the exterior in the diverse styles we’ve become accustomed to seeing from him. Keep your eyes peeled if you’re ever in New York and you may catch one of these beasts prowling through the streets. Discuss David Ellis here.

Openings: COPE2 – “The Rebirth” @ Project One

Last week, Bronx artist COPE2 treked across the nation for a solo exhibition at San Francisco’s Project One. Entitled The Rebirth, COPE brought the indoor game as he created works incorporating his renowned bubble throw ups and his wildstyle compositions. Great to see the Bay area get to experience the works from one of the key writers of the iconic early subway scene of NYC. Discuss COPE2 here.
