Streets: David Ellis – “PST” (New York)

Versatile artist David Ellis recently turned the Pearl Street Triangle, a pedestrian plaza in Brooklyn, into a canvas for his a new mural. Entitled simply PST, the new piece which took six days to complete depicts an artist being held up by two large hands. The project funded by DUMBO developer Two Trees Management is a reference to the Ground Zero space filled with water while the uplifting hands show that we can pull ourselves up. Streets: Lewy Bombs the Brooklyn Bridge

Earlier this week, Lewy added his name to the short list of legends who have hit up the Brooklyn Bridge with their graf skills. The tags were buffed over quickly but not before photos were taken of the first work on the spot in over a decade. The fill-ins were put up in the cover of darkness 119 feet up and were repeated three times by the daring and prolific artist. Via 12OzProphet.

Starting tomorrow, June 30th, the London Pleasure Gardens will open their doors to the public in the heart of Olympic East London. The 20 acre destination will be one of the art, music, and cultural hubs for the hundreds of thousands of people who will be in town for the 30th Olympiad with major venues for live concerts, sculpture gardens, nature reserve, video projects and more. Streets: Shepard Fairey – “Rise Above Rebel Woman” (Paris)

Shepard Fairey (featured) and the OBEY crew were recently in Paris for a new mural put together by the Mairie of 13th district, Mehdi from Galerie Itinerrance and Butterfly. The piece was part of a unfunded regeneration project of the area, called Street Art 13, which given has huge walls to many international artists. Featured as our Art Focus artist back in May (here), Sao Paulo-based street artist Eduardo Kobra has traveled to New York City for a mural project. The two-level public art piece features his remix of the famous Alfred Eisenstaedt photograph from the V-J celebrations in Times Square marking the end of U.S. hostilities with Japan. Like his currently showing exhibition in Lisbon (covered), master of all mediums Vhils (filmed) took the opportunity to showcase his versatility with a diverse selection for his newest solo at the Magda Danysz Paris location. After spreading his love with multiple murals throughout the city (including a map), fans of the Portugal-based street specialist finally got to see some of his indoor work including his new styrofoam pieces. Streets: Conor Harrington – “Gonna Take My Problems to the United Nations” (London)

After a recent foray into the town of Grottaglie in Italy to kick off the FAME Festival with a series of impressive murals, Conor Harrington (interviewed) returns to the UK and promptly works on another large scale wall with his usual referencing of colonial imagery. The new work, created in his distinctive combination of abstract and photorealistic rendering, is located on Whitecross Street in London and is entitled Gonna Take My Problems to the United Nations.
