Streets: Brad Downey in Lisbon (Crono Project)

Berlin-based American artist, Brad Downey, has been keeping himself rather busy lately. His first show in the Middle East, We Are Beginning: Personal Projects in Public Spaces, opened this week at Cuadro Fine Art Gallery in Dubai. In addition, Downey’s work features in the group show What Is Contemporary Art? which opened Friday at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde, Denmark. Last week, the Live On Sunset venue in Los Angeles hosted the Travis Barker’s Give The Drummer Some Art show. We aren’t sure if all the art is really going to the Blink-182 drummer but it would make for an interesting addition to his collection with artists like David Choe, Jeff Soto, Chris Peters, Pushead, Haze, Mike Giant, and Mr. Cartoon in the lineup. Charity / Releases: David Choe – “Red Moon” Edition

Despite being imprisoned last time he was in Japan and forbidden to return, David Choe (featured) still has love for the Land of the Rising Sun. This new print (limited to 88) entitled “Red Moon” will be released today at 6 pm PST at Trapeze Editions with 100% of the proceeds going to the relief efforts in Japan. Who rocks the hardest? Apparently, Ben Eine does, among other things as he’s painting up San Fran in conjunction with his show that opened last weekend (covered). Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto continue to impress us with a superb roster of artists. Their latest, Good Folks, opened last week and featured Swoon (interviewed), Monica Canilao, Jeremiah Maddock, Derek Mehaffey (aka Other), Labrona and Troy Dugas. Vhils, whose explosive new video we recently featured, recently opened up a show entitled Detritus at Gallery Presenca in Portugal. The body of work featured two types of art-making that we have come to expect from the Lisbon-based artist – images made from chiseled concrete and layers of paint & torn paper. Street typographical poet Ben Eine opened his show at White Walls on Saturday in SF. AM stopped by to check out the work of the busy artist, as he has also been on the streets painting his signature letters throughout the city. We think the title of the show “GREATEST” was very appropriate after seeing most of the words and phrases chosen by the UK-based artist for this body of work. More opening photos after the jump…

On Saturday night, Shepard Fairey (featured) opened his latest exhibition Revolutions at Los Angeles’ Robert Berman Gallery. This unique showing was in part a mini-retrospective featuring the numerous works which Shepard and Obey have done in their long history and love affair with music.
