Live Painting: ProjectRoom with Jaybo, Remi/Rough & Juice 126

London’s first Projectroom event took place last night, with out-of-town organiser Jaybo inviting locals Remi/Rough and Juice 126 to collaborate in a live painting event. The three artists each took a canvas to start work on individually – Remi and Jaybo working directly on the wall and Juice getting all primeval by working barefoot on the floor. Those who came out for the Culver City Artwalk and ventured south of Washington on La Cienega encountered a very special treat. Two legends in graffiti, El Mac and Retna, were collaboratively painting a huge mural sponsored by Rivera & Rivera. The team, who have blessed walls from coast to coast–including many beautiful ones in Los Angeles already–worked into the night, unloading aerosol can after aerosol can on this piece. Last night, AM stopped by the spacious Lazarides popup gallery in Beverly Hills to take in the four-person show of Vhils, JR, Conor Harrington (interviewed), and Micallef (interviewed). This Thursday night in London sees Jaybo, also known as Monk, brings his first “ProjectRoom” live painting event to London. We all know that Ben Eine’s alphabet shutters can brighten up any street right? Well, we were surprised that before now, Ben had never actually painted a full alphabet down one street, so AM went along to see how Middlesex Street in London, was getting turned into Alphabet Street. This past Saturday, one of the stops we made at the Culver City Artwalk that made us pause for a long while was “Booked” (previewed) at Carmichael Gallery. This past Saturday, AM saw the return of Skullphone to his home of Los Angeles. The show “Digital Media” takes a closer look and questions the viewer about their relationship with technology.
