Openings: Charlie Isoe – “Silver Spoons and Hotel Rooms” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

Extensive traveler and artist Charlie Isoe opened his show “Silver Spoons and Hotel Rooms” this weekend at the Rathbone Place location for Lazarides Gallery. He works loosely, focusing on human and anthropomorphic animals that draw attention to a side of all of us that we perhaps do not want to face. This will be his first solo show UK exhibition and will run until June 23. Opening pics after the jump…

A full film is currently under production and should be released in the next few days. Time to get busy Timid! Check out some further pictures from Remi/Rough after the jump.

Video / Teaser: Os Gemeos @ Museu Colecção Berardo

Sounds like Lisbon has some street artists visiting in the next several months with some pretty exciting things planned.  First up are the Brazilian duo Os Gemeos and their show opening up on Monday, May 17th, at the Museu Colecção Berardo. After touring major museums in their home country (here, here, and here), the twins have set their sites on Portugal for their next museum exhibition, this time entitled Pra quem mora lá, o céu é lá’ (To who lives there, heaven is there). Seen above […]

Preview: Aftershock LA – Art Auction Benefit

An eclectic art show and event, Aftershock LA, organized by Cafe Mode, is set to open tonight, May 15th at the Royal/T Cafe. The benefit (tickets $25 at the door) is put on to help raise money for Build Change, an international non-profit that designs earthquake-resistant house in developing countries and trains people to build them. A number of artists you will be familiar with if you read AM regularly, like James Jean (interviewed) seen above, will be participating so if you are interested, take […]

Teaser: Herakut @ Gallery Springmann.Varol

After getting off to a great start by holding a grand opening show with French sensation JR (covered), Galerie Springmann.Varol follows it up with another stellar choice – Herakut (interviewed). Although we just got a taste of their recent work, we are looking forward to this solo exhibition by the German street art duo. We’ll have more to follow as we draw closer to the opening on June 11th. Discuss Herakut here.

Update: Gaia

Haven’t heard from Gaia in while ever since hanging out a little at Art Basel Miami last year, but it looks like he’s participating in two shows in the next couple weeks. First up is a solo at Gallery Heist opening tomorrow night in SF (of which there are some preview pics after the jump). Then, on May 23rd, he’ll be part of the Axis Alley Project in Baltimore for which he put up this sick mural of his “Deny Him Three Times” image – it blends […]

Streets: Banksy in Boston

If we were privy to Banksy’s flight itinerary the last several months, this is what we might have seen: UK – Utah – UK -> LA -> SF -> Chicago -> Detroit -> Toronto -> Boston or some combination thereof (strange that he skipped NY). How do we know? Well, he leaves a trail of stencils (of course, we will never know for sure unless they are confirmed). Some of readers may have had Banksy overload ever since his documentary came out at Sundance, but […]

Update: Conor Harrington

According to his blog, it looks like Conor Harrington (interviewed) is in the Middle East somewhere working on a new project doing what he does best – big complex murals (seen above)! Hopefully we’ll see some of this in Los Angeles as Conor JR, Vhils, and Antony Micallef (interviewed) have next at the Lazarides popup space following the mindblowing David Choe show.  We’ll have more to follow on this soon… Discuss Conor Harrington here.

Highlights: Recommended openings for this May 13 – 16

NYC is rocking it yet again this weekend – the big Charming Baker popup show, ROA continues to kill it in Brooklyn, Scott Musgrove returns to LeVine and the Willoughby Windows Project returns to the desolate storefronts of Brooklyn… the Big Apple is just on fire this weekend. Not to be outdone, the UK has the big ‘Art From The New World‘ show from Corey Helford Gallery rocking things up north at the Bristol City Museum and Gallery. Too much good stuff for one person […]
