Teaser: Herakut – No Placebos @ Red Flagg

German duo Herakut (interviewed) are hard at work preparing for a surprise show tomorrow night at Red Flagg. The show, entitled “No Placebos,” will run through July 3rd and opens with a reception from 6-8 pm with the artists in attendance and available for signing their recently published monograph The Perfect Merge.Â Hot off their successful exhibition with Campbarbossa, look for them to continue to impress with this New York show.

Israeli street artist Know Hope makes his Los Angeles solo debut at Carmichael Gallery on Thursday, June 4th. Best known for his thought-provoking mixed media pieces, inspiring poetry and intricate gallery installations, Know Hope is going big for his plans in the City of Angels. Video: Scratching the Surface – Vhils

Portugal street artist Vhils, who recently participated at the grand opening of Laz’s Rathbone Place as well as the Tunnel 228 project, just released a video he’s been working one entitled “Scratching the Surface.”Â In it, employing excellent cinematography, he documents the creation of one of his pieces.Â We also get a glimpse at his mastery of all tools of the trade – spray paint, stencil, power tools, hammer and chisel. Steve Lazarides opened his new five-story gallery in Londonâ€™s Rathbone Place this week (originally reported here). Collectors, admirers and famous faces alike crammed into the new Lazarides location,Â which has beenÂ named “The Rathbone.” AM was at the private view opening on Thursday the 14th and the house was packed. Continuing AM’s tour of Hong Kong, we made a stop at the Art Hong Kong International Art Fair. This vanguard Asian fair brings together top notch exhibitors from over 110 galleries. Much like our visits toÂ Basel Miami and Armory NYC, in Hong Kong we experienced and saw work from some of theÂ best talents in the art world. Last night, AM was lucky enough to be on hand to experience Jose Parla’s latest body of work Reading Through Seeing (previewed) which opened in Hong Kong at Oos Botos Gallery. Parla’s much anticipated return to Asia didn’t disappoint as he produced a gorgeous body of work on a variety of mediums: canvas, wood, ceramic and paper. AM spent some more time with Jeff Soto (interviewed) as he was preparing for his upcoming solo at StolenSpace (previewed) this week. We were on hand to take pictures of the first ofÂ his street pieces in London. Soto was a graffiti writer back in the day around the Los Angeles and Riverside area before he concentrated on his endeavors in the studio and hadn’t taken to the streets in almost 10 years. Streets: Faile – Second Spinning Prayer Wheel Installation

Unperturbed by the theft of the first spinning prayer wheel (close-up feature) they placed in Williamsburg last month, Brooklyn based collective Faile have again installed another one of their beautiful, hand-carved prayer wheels in New York.Â With these prayer wheels selling for upwards of $20k at Faileâ€™s â€œLost in Glimmering Shadowsâ€ (covered) show last year, this awesome street piece probably won’t last for long. Street Art Shows Strong @ Sotheby’s Contemporary Day Auction

We heard a rumor that the economy is not well and the art market is hurting. Apparently, the folks attending Sothebyâ€™s Contemporary Day auction donâ€™t agree. Today’s sale yielded solid results, with 337 lots pulling in over 21.5 million USD. Among the amazing lineup of artists, such as Warhol, Basquiat, Kippenberger and Cy Twombly, AM noted the inclusion of two iconic names from the “Urban Art” genre: Shepard Fairey and Banksy.
