KAWS Releasing Remaining Stock Of “BFF” Plush (Black Version)

For those who missed the original blue colorway of KAWS’ BFF plush (covered) in Thailand, there was another chance with the recent slate of black versions that were released in conjunction with his exhibition in Texas (covered). POW! WOW! Hawaii ’16 / Previews: Exploring The New Contemporary Movement” @ Honolulu Museum of Art School

This Sunday, POW! WOW! Hawaii (more info here) kicks off with a re-occurring show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum of Art School entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement (see 2016 & 2015 & 2014). As in the past, the format is 12 x 12″ works, leading to a visually congruent display of artworks, some of which were inspired by island life. Streets: RETNA // The Beauty Project (Mexico City)

Recently in Mexico City, RETNA (featured) was invited in to create public art for The Beauty Project México. Painting his distinct script at the Cuauhtemoc building in the Tlatelolco neighborhood, the Los Angeles-based writer spent a few days working on the 21 story twin structures, his tallest intervention to date. Other artist who will be joining the project in the upcoming weeks include Alexis CILER, Olivia Steele, Saner, AEC (Interesni Kazki), Ericailcane and others. Discuss RETNA here. Previews: Jose Parla – “Roots” @ SCAD Museum

As we mentioned when we covered Jose Parla’s show at YoungArts during Basel Week Miami, the work was going to travel to the SCAD Museum of Art in 2017. That exhibition, entitled Roots, opened today in Georgia at the Savannah College of Art and Design with works ranging from mid-sized canvases and sculptures to large-scale paintings. The Cuban-American artist has created a series of work that represent everything from Cuba’s history to his personal memories and experiences while utilizing his signature textures, urban calligraphy, and palette. Streets: Shepard Fairey – “Cultivate Harmony” (Las Vegas)

A couple days ago, Shepard Fairey (featured) wrapped up his latest large scale mural in Las Vegas, created for the Life is Beautiful festival and curated by Justkids. Entitled Cultivate Harmony, the 21 story high piece now graces the facade of the Plaza Hotel in downtown. Working in unusually cold and windy weather over the course of six days, Shep and his team hope the wall will “remind people that peace and harmony with each other and the planet itself are the only way to maintain what sustains us.” Photo credit: […]

Recap / Videos: KAWS – “A Virtual Reality Experience”

For those that missed the unveiling of KAWS’ new virtual reality experience created with the help Visionaire, Artnet has nice recap of the event here. Visitors at the New York Public Library were taken on a studio visit with the Brooklyn-based artist, which quickly turns into a kaleidoscope of colors, misbehaving characters, and surreal imagery when he leaves the room.
