Streets: Metlac Bridge Graffiti (Mexico)

Taking risks is certainly part of every graffiti artist’s job description, but here is an example that even some seasoned writers may have a problem with – especially if they have a fear of heights. Braving a narrow ledge on the side of highest railroad bridge in North America (430 feet high), some young guns have recently tagged the Metlac Bridge in Veracruz, Mexico to make their names known. If these photos are enough or if you have questions about their authenticity, head over here to […]

Streets: 0331c (Moscow)

We have one more piece from the streets to share with you before we close the chapter on this year’s Christmas festivities. It was -25°C in Moscow recently, but that didn’t stop 0331c and his friends from holding their own celebration of the holiday season with the creation of a graffiti Xmas tree on the side of a building. Check the video and more photos below… Photo Credit: Ekosystem.

Basel Week Miami ’12 / Art Focus: Jorge Santos

As you saw from our coverage and cover image for CONTEXT Art Miami, we were quite taken by an artist new to AM – Jorge Santos. Showing with 101/Exhibit as well as Evan Lurie Gallery, the American painter takes inspiration from the political turmoil and struggles of his formative years in Angola and Portugal to create surreal and brooding scenes, a seemingly frozen snapshot in some fantastic story. With his works overflowing with intriguing characters and details, we found ourselves continually discovering new things as […]

Merry Christmas from Escif

One of the most prolific street artists out there, Escif, apparently hasn’t taken Christmas off. He’s been on a roll as of late with increasingly more edgy and political imagery (for example here & here), not surprising as the depressing situation in Spain is fertile ground for inspiration. This recent wall in Valencia features his take on the Christmas tree. Discuss Escif here.

Art Focus: Eloy Morales

It’s been a while since we last had an Art Focus article here on AM, but it’s time to get back to introducing artists new to our site. Eloy Morales is a painter from Spain who specializes in large oil on panel portraits. He had his first show at the age of 15, and has been focused on creating art ever since. You may have seen his work at various art fairs as well as solos in his native country. Check out more of his incredible […]

UK teacher discovers William James Webb painting in her attic and it sells for almost $1 million at Christie’s. Crewest Gallery in downtown Los Angeles to close after ten years. 323East Gallery […]

Rewind: Dec 17 – Dec 23

With the return of the Rewind article, our first since Basel Week Miami, it only seems appropriate that the featured video is from Art Basel. The footage follows chairman and president of the Calder Foundation, Alexander S.C. Rower, as he explains two prime examples of the famed artist’s work – the white Snow Flurry mobile and an Untitled black piece (never seen before in public). Check the fascinating below as Rower explains the significance and back story of each piece… Other notable videos include: Ann […]

Streets: World Roundup (Dec 17 – Dec 23)

This week’s summary of public art from around the world comes a little early as we are still trying to catch up after Basel Week Miami. Other notable work comes from GILF! – New York, 2501 – Brazil (source), Hyuro – Spain, Escif – Spain, Zilda – France, ESPO – Philadelphia, Agostino Iacurci – Italy, Krio […]

Basel Week Miami ’12 / Streets: Kenny Scharf

One of the sad stories present in every street art fan’s mind while attending Basel Week Miami this year was the passing of Tony Goldman. Instrumental in revitalizing the Wynwood area with his support of murals and public art, there were multiple tributes to the man during this year’s event. Kenny Scharf, a perennial visitor to Miami, also painted a wall in remembrance of Goldman at the Tony Goldman Memorial Garden. Check out more photos below… Photo credit: Birdman. Streets: World Roundup (Dec 10 – Dec 16)

Our global summary of street work returns this week with a look around the world but heavily tilted towards Florida due to Basel Week Miami. Kicking things off though is this new piece in Sri Lanka from the UK-based Phlegm. The rare splashes of color seen stem from his use of car paints in this wall. Other notable pieces come from RONE – Miami, Meggs – Miami, Phibs – Miami, Escif – France, Belin x Koka – Mexico (source), Dabs Myla truck – Miami, Prime […]
