Streets: Know Hope in Croatia

Street poet Know Hope, who recently tried his hand at trainwriting in Croatia, apparently also left his mark on the walls there. This mural piece also had some sculptural elements which the Israel-based artist has been known to include in both his outdoor and indoor work. A closer look after the jump…

Streets: Nick Walker – “Dopey” in Paris

Our friend Nick Walker (interviewed) is at it again, this time in France. He sent us some pics of the latest piece entitled “Dopey”. It’s his little twist on what he calls the “Dwarfs.” This is Nick’s most recent work on the streets of Paris since his Le Coran-can. Nice little tag there Nick, wonder what’s coming next? Update: The location is rue Oberkampf situated in the 11th district (Croisement et de St Maur dans le 11ème) next to La place verte. It’s created with support from the LeMur Association. Check […]

Streets: Mac in Hawaii, Singapore, and Vietnam

It looks like Mac, whose work in Ireland we recently posted, has been doing a lot of traveling. In short succession, he hit up Hawaii, Singapore and Vietnam, all with some site-specific imagery done with his luminous and signature expanding spirals. More images after the jump…

Highlights: Recommended Openings (Aug 19 – 21)

Bit of a slow weekend as the dog days of August come to an end soon and the art world gears back up for things this coming September. By far, the big event leading the charge is BAST’s return to London at Lazarides. I just saw the preview and BAST has taken things up a notch with hand-painted acrylic works on canvas playing off his mixed-media collage style as well as some beautiful sculptural wall pieces. If in London this week, don’t miss it! More […]

Interviews: Glennray Tutor

An artist that caught our eyes, Glennray Tutor, sat down with us for a session of questions and answers recently. Tutor, who is based in Mississippi, touches on subjects such as his popular “marbles and comics” series, his work in the context of photorealism, and legacy of William Faulkner who coincidentally lived in the same town and whose quote we derived the name of our website from. Take a look at the full interview after the jump…

Streets: Saber

Renowned Los Angeles based writer SABER (interviewed) recently posted up an image of him on his blog working after hours on presumably a new mural. Of course, you will recognizable his distinct lettering style, but is that a face peeking out above? For those craving more from the graf legend, check out some pretty crazy collaborations he worked on recently with some all star lineups here and here. Discuss Saber here.

Studio Visits: Marcus Freeman

AM came across Marcus Freeman’s paintings last year, and we instantly loved how he mixes a superflat representational style of depicting the built environment with the cleanliness of Ed Ruscha & Patrick Caulfield’s pop art stylings. Some of the elements of Industrial architecture and landscapes used within his paintings are found and photographed locally by Freeman, and some are either assembled from a series of his found sources or invented based upon sketched concepts. We arranged to take a look around his design studio, where […]

Travelogue: D*Face in Quito, Ecuador – Part 2

It seems that cans of paint are a valuable commodity in Ecuador and whilst we discard our empty cans and messed up caps without question where it is readily available, the local kids in Quito clean up the old tips and re-fill and re-pressurise the cans for a second life. We last saw D*Face (interviewed) hitting Quito with posters and paste-ups around the city whilst trying to source some precious paint during his trip to Ecuador for the ‘9no Festival de Arte en la Calle’ […]

Overtime: August 8 – 14

Some pieces from Tim Biskup for Fifty24MX. A look at Tessar Lo’s, Jason Sho Green, and Rob Sato’s sketchbooks. New octopi lighting from Adam Wallacavage. Terence Koh and his Children of the Corn. Huge show for Anish Kapoor in India. A tour of Shepard Fairey’s studio up for grabs. BSA interviews Os Gemeos. Speaking of interviews, Mode 2, Murakami, and Specter speak their mind too. Specter in London. Momo visits Papermonster.

Streets: Os Gemeos x Futura in NYC Wrap-Up

Wrapping up our coverage of a phenomenal collaboration, AM got to spend some time with Os Gemeos & Futura on their day off after the completion of this impressive mural. The seven story mural consisted of the twins working on the “britches” and Futura utilizing his “point-men” to create the crazy shirt (all in conjunction with AKANYC and 12ozProphet with support from Nike and Montana Colors). It’s nothing short of amazing that his project took less than a week to complete. Everyone was finally able […]
