Studio Visit: Mark Whalen – “Maze Walkers” @ Chalk Horse (Sydney)

Mark Whalen’s new solo show, Maze Walkers, just opened at Chalk Horse in Sydney, Australia. His latest body of work displays his hand-painted gridded environments with some new stylistic directions. Working with themes of geometry, ritual, science, and sport, Whalen’s work continues to increase in complexity in both narrative and composition, but with a focused clarity that is well suited to his signature style. In tune with his recurring theme of modern mythology are some porcelain vessels adorned with his stylized figures in cobalt blue. […]

Studio Visits: GILF! – “i EXAM”@ Arcilesi Homberg

New York based GILF! is at it again, and AM stopped by her Brooklyn studio to peep her latest body of work premiering at DUMBO’s Arcilesi Homberg. Studio Visits / Previews: Jon Bocksel – “SEA OF BLASPHEMY” @ Curio

Over a half decade ago, I was introduced to this art school kid they called Bocksel. At the time, he was running around creating innovative art films, making cleaver t-shirts (with underlining political undertones), crafting skateboards into obscure shapes, and wheat pasting on his Friday nights while his peers were playing beer pong. Recently, I stopped by to visit Jon Bocksel’s studio to say hello as he prepared for his upcoming group shown, SEA OF BLASPHEMY at Curio. These days, Jon Boxel is still hard at […]

Studio Visits: Chris Berens

We had a privilege to visit Chris Berens in his new studio in Amsterdam, just after he finished his 3 new impressive works for last year’s PAN Art Fair. Most of the walls of the studio, especially around the isle in the middle […]
