Olek is launching her first UK solo show this evening at Tony’s Gallery in East London. The wall-to-floor installation recreates living quarters, complete with bed, tables, picture frames and other domestic objects — all covered in brightly-coloured crochet. AM has been keeping track of progress over the last few weeks and we’re looking forward to seeing the finished result. Openings: Daniel Arsham – “the fall, the ball, and the wall” @ OHWOW

Last Friday night, the OHWOW Gallery in Los Angeles hosted the opening for Daniel Arsham’s the fall, the ball, and the wall. Displaying a deep interest in architecture and its relationship to the natural world, the NY-based artist’s collection of pieces for this showing can be grouped into three categories – structural interventions featuring his signature melting or dripping creations, a series of canvas works depicting buildings with elements that spell out words, and a hanging cloud of tinted spheres. Following our earlier coverage largely restricted to original works at London Art Fair, AM is back with a selection of the limited edition prints and other multiples we spotted at Tuesday’s opening. Among the more obvious highly-desirables were a couple of screenprints from the 1960s: Sandra by the recently-deceased Gerald Laing and Untitled (La Lune en Rodage – Carlo Belloli) by Bridget Riley, both at the Sims Reed Gallery booth. On Tuesday, AM attended the opening of London Art Fair, an event that focuses on modern British and contemporary art, held at the Business Design Centre in Islington. In terms of overall presentation, the most attractive and cohesive booth for us this year is by London’s Hazlitt Holland-Hibbert, featuring works by Bridget Riley, Anthony Caro and Kenneth Armitage. Showing: Yayoi Kusama – “The Obliteration Room” @ Queensland Gallery of Modern Art

As part of her Look Now, See Forever exhibition (more on this later) that opened last month at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art in Australia, Yayoi Kusama included an immersive installation piece that encompass an entire room dubbed The Obliteration Room. What began as a completely whited-out setting (furniture included), ended up covered by thousands of her signature dots – aided by placement of colorful stickers by children who visited the exhibition over the course of two weeks. AM recently attended the opening night for David Ellis‘ solo at New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery. After returning from Miami and the festivities of Art Basel Week, Tim Biskup (featured) headed over to The Standard Hotel in Hollywood to work on a new project. We recently caught a show by renowned photographer Terry Richardson in New York’s Half Gallery. Mom & Dad featured an excerpt of select photos from his latest monograph from Morel Books (available here). As the title indicates, Richardson included photos of his late father Bob Richardson, a well-known fashion photographer and mother Annie. There were two installations to accompany the photos. Taking a closer look at this year’s Scope art fair, we zoom in on New York’s Jonathan LeVine Gallery. They brought some old and some new to show Miami where they’ve come from and some of the new talent that’s coming down the pipeline. We caught WK Interact and Olek presenting fresh works alongside newcomers to the gallery such as Jason DeCaires Taylor and Aakash Nihalani with their thought provoking installations/photography.
