It looks like Scott Radke (interviewed) has taken time from his busy schedule recently to sculpt this new piece with his signature mix of the the whimsical yet grotesque. He also recently worked on some marionettes for the Alice in Wonderland movie as well as creating a cluster of pieces for the Thinkspace “Picks of the Harvest” show (covered) during the Culver City artwalk. Basel Week Switzerland ’10 – Paul McCarthy @ Hauser & Wirth

Hauser & Wirth’s booth at Art Basel features a brand new body of work by highly respected artist Paul McCarthy. The works are sculptural versions of work explored by the artist in his White Snow exhibition and features the dwarfs from, surprisingly, Snow White. They are made of various colored silicone and are unmistakeably McCarthy-esque. A set of these are rumored to be priced at $3million and a single dwarf is a more affordable $750,000. Openings: Yoskay Yamamoto – “Familiar Strangers” @ Lebasse Projects

This past Saturday saw the opening of Yoskay Yamamoto’s (featured) exhibition “Familiar Strangers”. It is the third solo show by the artist at LeBasse Projects and features a diverse range of work, including paintings on panel and canvas, sculptures made of cast resin and metal, and hand carved wood sculptures. The well-attended opening included artist friends Audrey Kawasaki, Luke Chueh, Edwin Ushiro, Nate Frizzell, and Bumblebee. More after the jump…

After great shows in San Francisco (covered) and New York (covered), it’s about time that master sculptor Kris Kuksi flexes his muscles across the ocean. Joshua Liner Gallery will host Kris Kuski’s latest body of work to be exhibited at Scope Art Fair at this year’s Basel Week in Switzerland. According to our friends at Galerie Springmann.Varol, the street art tandem of Hera and Akut are already on site setting up their new show opening June 11th. Not only will the exhibition feature fantastic paintings from Herakut (interviewed), it looks as though there will be some exquisite sculptural work as well, bringing to life the creatures and imagery from their canvases. Yoshitomo Nara unveiled a new series of works at Japan’s Tomio Koyama Gallery yesterday. As we mentioned earlier, Nara has been very busy honing his talents on this new medium for over a year at Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park.
