Following up on the first phase of his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collaboration with Good Smile in 2014 (covered), James Jean (interviewed) will be releasing some of the villains from the cartoon series, films, and comic books. The Japanese manufacturer of hobby products is teaming up with Nickelodeon and Jean to design new collectible versions of Shredder, Bebop, Rocksteady and Krang. Releases: Luke Chueh – “The Prisoner (Oxycontin)” Figure

This Saturday (February 25th, 5-9pm), Luke Chueh (interviewed) will be releasing the OxyContin 20Mg variant of The Prisoner figure based on one of his paintings. The pink version features one of the Los Angeles-based artist’s signature sad bears sitting entrapped in a pill bottle (just like his Vicodin edition). POW! WOW! Hawaii ’17 / Showing: Exploring The New Contemporary Movement” @ Honolulu Museum of Art School

Showing in associated POW! WOW! Hawaii through the tomorrow at the Honolulu Museum of Art School is the 4th annual Exploring The New Contemporary Movement group exhibition (see 2016 & 2015 & 2014) curated by Thinkspace. Artists were asked to contribute 12 x 12″ pieces leading to a visually conforming display of works. Rounding things out was a showcase for Shok-1 (seen below) and a Homer Simpson x Banksy parody installation by Oak Oak (seen above). Tonight in Bilbao, Isaac Cordal opened a show at SC Gallery entitled Giza Komedia (Basque for The Human Comedy). The new body of work from the Galician artist will feature sculptural selections from his longstanding Cement Eclipses series as well as photograph documentation (as is his practice) of some of these pieces as interventions in the public space of Bilbao. Releases: Kris Kuksi – “Claudius” Figure

Through Joshua Liner Gallery, Kris Kuksi recently released the first limited edition figure from what will an ongoing series of sculptural editions. Entitled Claudius and produced in a run of 50, each piece shares a central figure but is adorned with unique elements creating something akin to the sculptor’s signature assemblage work. Openings: Jeremiah Jenkins – “Everything Must Go” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Earlier this month, Hashimoto Contemporary opened a solo show from Jeremiah Jenkins entitled Everything Must Go. The new body of work includes sculptural works from the local artist that display his signature wit and novel technique of dismantling an item’s original form and recreating it in a way to make the viewer think. The most delightful pieces come from his Trophy series where the ubiquitous golden figures seen on top of the common prizes appear to have taken a lives of their own. Photo credit: Shaun Roberts.

This Sunday, POW! WOW! Hawaii (more info here) kicks off with a re-occurring show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum of Art School entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement (see 2016 & 2015 & 2014). As in the past, the format is 12 x 12″ works, leading to a visually congruent display of artworks, some of which were inspired by island life.
