Releases: FriendsWithYou – “Little Cloud Pocket Amulet”

Earlier today, FriendsWithYou release a new sculpture edition – the Little Cloud Pocket Amulet. Limited to a run of 1000, the collectible meant to be an “enduring symbol of love and light as well as the idea that everything has a soul” is made from brass plated lead-free pewter and will cost $60. Upcoming: Tom Sachs’ Space Program Final Performance Live Online

Tomorrow, January 13th, Tom Sachs will stream live the final performance of his longstanding space program project (see NY 2012) on Instagram and Facebook. The six hour demonstration featuring the American artist’s signature DIY assemblages that astoundingly mimic objects and equipment from the exploration of space can be seen in realtime from 5pm to 12am (PST). Previews: Brendan Monroe – “Mammatus” @ Curator’s Cube

On Saturday, January 14th, Brendan Monroe (interviewed) will be opening a show in Japan at Curator’s Cube. Entitled Mammatus, the new body of work includes ceramic sculptures and black and white ink drawings. While the sculptural work are more figure-based and reference the American artist’s earlier work, the drawings feature graphic shapes and movement like his more recent murals, a few of which will be painted in the Tokyo showspace. Thomas Canto recently introduced his latest big project, the Illusory Perspectives installation at Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. This large installation continues his series of futuristic aesthetics-oriented works which combine urban and geometrical elements in an eclectic abstract form. Mixing painted patterns with actual objects and a grid of both lines and threads installed in the space, the French artist creates a multidimensional work that plays with observers’ perspectives. Anselm Kiefer returns to the White Cube’s Bermondsey space after an absence of five years for his latest exhibition entitled Walhalla. Last week, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga (CAC Malaga) in Spain hosted the first museum retrospective from Mark Ryden (interviewed) entitled Cámara de las Maryville. For those who have seen the exhibition, it certainly has been a House of Wonders with the plethora of small and large-format canvases, drawings, dioramas and sculptures on display for all to enjoy. Gee Vaucher has recently opened an exhibition entitled Introspective at Firstsite in Colchester. This is the first major show of her art in the UK and it spans the last 50 years of the multi-disciplinary artist’s practice. The work from the first half of her career is characterized by searing political satire, which was intended as a force for social change. If the Art Basel Miami Beach (covered) is considered the main event every year during Basel Week Miami, then NADA Miami Beach is certainly the much-awaited encore (Art Basel typically opens on Weds to VIPs and NADA opens the next morning on Thurs.). Coinciding with the Amsterdam Art Weekend, Grimm Gallery opened Dustin Yellin’s show 10Parts on November 25th. With a twenty-foot long modular glass landscape across ten panels as the showpiece, this is the American artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery and will stay on view through the 7th of January.
