Upcoming: Thomas Doyle – “No Man’s Land” @ LeBasse Projects

Last we saw Thomas Doyle’s sculptural genius was during last year in Miami during Art Basel Week. Now AM and fans in Los Angeles will get to see a full body of work later this month (June 22) when his solo No Man’s Land opens at LeBasse Projects, the site of his show in 2001 (covered). The exhibition will feature works from his Proxy series, miniature dioramas and models invariably feature some natural disaster striking the quite life of suburbia. Discuss Thomas Doyle here.

Showing: Letha Wilson – Landmarks and Monuments @ Art in General

NYC nonprofit art space Art in General currently has an excellent exhibition by Letha Wilson, entitled Landmarks and Monuments. The show consists mostly of Wilson’s photo-based sculptures—many of which were created and installed specifically for the site. In the center of the gallery, a floor-to-ceiling photograph of a moonrise curves around one of the space’s support columns. KAWS – “GISWIL” @ More Gallery

With Art Basel opening next week in Switzerland, the art world is gearing up for another round of festivities after barely recovering from the Hong Kong version. One of the associated shows that we are looking forward to is KAWS’ GISWIL at More Gallery. Along a massive wooden companions with “Pinocchio noses,” paintings from the American artist will also be on display. The Hole gallery in New York continues it’s run of great shows. This one is a group exhibition titled Extraction and it’s focus on new approaches in abstract painting. This showcase features an expansive list of artists such as Ara Peterson, Chris Johanson, Cory Arcangel, Gerhard Richter, Kadar Brock, Mark Flood, Peter Sutherland, Sam Moyer, Wade Guyton, Xylor Jane to name a few and aims to show how this current generation of artists’ take on conveying the non-figurative. Tracey Emin recently revealed a duo gallery show at New York’s Lehmann Maupin. Last Wednesday marked the return of Faile’s Les BALLETS de FAILE to the New York City Ballet at the Lincoln Center. After an epic tower installation for their first showing (covered) at the same venue for the NYCB art series kick off, the duo Patricks premiered a new body of work that consisted of their signature prayer wheels. Benefits: Brooklyn Museum’s Gala – “The Brooklyn Artist’s Ball”

The Brooklyn Museum recently held its annual benefit gala to raise funds for the institution’s programming. This year, the theme was The Brooklyn Artist’s Ball and 18 Brooklyn-based artists were invited to install their vision and transform a 40-foot-long table into a specially created work of art that will be on view for one night only at the exclusive dinner and after party. Anish Kapoor’s first major exhibition in Berlin, Sympathy for a Beloved Sun, has just opened at Martin-Gropius-Bau, curated by Berliner Festspiele.
